SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Frustrated business owners in the Midway District say an old strip club was a better neighbor than the current property owner, which happens to be a church. The Rock Church bought the strip club, formerly known as The Body Shop, in August of 2018. Now, businesses say nothing has changed except there’s now more trash and drugs. Neighbors say they want the church to clean it up. Noor Shamoon comes to work at Navis Pack and Shop to a very unwelcome sight. “Food, trash feces on wall, on our vehicles.”He says it’s a foul odor and claims people who hang out in the area vandalized the businesses work truck. Employees at the Midas muffler business across the street also say trash and loitering have become huge problems. “We're trying to run a business and it's hard when you have that across the street,” said Gary Stricker. People who work in the area say prostitution is rampant as are drugs. One man reportedly overdosed recently. “I think he maybe shot up some kind of drug or something. We were concerned about him so we called an ambulance,” Stricker said. When The Rock Church dropped the banner over the “nude girls” sign at the former strip club, they promised to clean up the neighborhood. Since the church purchased the property for .3 million, they haven’t touched it. "I hope they do something about that to clean the place up you know,” Stricker said. The Rock Church responded Tuesday to 10News requests for comment. 1463

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — For the first time Tuesday, 12-year-old Kiera Latulippe faced the man who killed her entire family in a drunk driving crash. The Valley Center girl was in the car with her family headed to the Austin, Texas, airport after vacation when the drunk driver hit their car head-on. Her father, Scott; mother, Nancy, and 14-year-old brother, Jackson, all died. Kiera was the only one to survive. On Friday, Guy Brasted was sentenced to 18 years in prison. After the sentencing, Kiera and her uncle and legal guardian, Mark Latulippe, took the stand with an emotional message for Brasted. "It made me miss out on so much, like daddy daughter dances," Kiera said, listing the things she can't do now that her family has been ripped away from her. RELATED: Valley Center remembers family killed in DUI crashOn Tuesday, after the pair returned from the sentencing in Texas, Latulippe told 10News, "it was extremely emotional for her having to look at this again and place herself in that car again." Brasted had a blood alcohol level more than double the legal limit at the time of the crash."My brother, Jackson, and I had something I can never have with someone else, and it kills me to know I will never have that feeling with anyone else. Everyday I think about him," Kiera said.Since the accident happened two years ago, Latulippe has taken his niece into his own care."I can't replace, I'm a fill-in parent for someone who has tragically had everything robbed from her in one moment," Latulippe says.Latulippe is a CHP officer for California Highway Patrol. He says he now shares his story to prevent drunk drivers from getting behind the wheel, not only as an officer but now, as a victim. 1713

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Hundreds gathered outside Fire Station 21 in Pacific Beach Tuesday evening to remember a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department firefighter killed in a motorcycle crash over the weekend.Ryan Ferrara, 39, was riding on the back of the motorcycle as a passenger when it crashed into a parked vehicle. At sunset, the crowds moved to the boardwalk and sands. Many firefighters were there to show the family their support.Capt. Rich Marcello, who worked with Ferrara, says it's a Fire Station 21 tradition to go down to the beach and watch the sunset after every shift when possible."Every evening, we come out and watch the sunset and gather round each other and kind of hang out with each other, which is why we're here with the family today," he said. Before he was a firefighter, Ferrara was a lifeguard. In his free time, he loved to surf, according to those who knew him."Everybody loved him, great Personality. He's just the whole package," Marcello said. 1509
