Barack and Michelle Obama penned a letter to the "inspiring" students of Parkland, Florida, in the wake of the tragic school shooting last month that?left 17 dead and launched a national conversation on gun violence. In the letter, dated March 10, the former President and first lady wrote that the students' leadership has "helped awaken the conscience of the nation."Many of the survivors of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting and students around the country have channeled their grief?into fighting the gun lobby, making impassioned pleas on television, meeting with lawmakers and preparing for a nationwide protest dubbed "March for our Lives," which will take place in Washington this Saturday.A source familiar with the letter, previously reported by Mic, confirmed its authenticity."We wanted to let you know how inspired we have been by the resilience, resolve, and solidarity that you have all shown in the wake of unspeakable tragedy. Not only have you supported and comforted each other, but you've helped awaken the conscience of the nation, and challenged decision-makers to make the safety of our children the country's top priority," the handwritten note said. The letter continued, "We have no doubt you are going to make an enormous difference in the days and years to come, and we will be there for you."The Obama presidency saw many tragic mass shootings in the US, including the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando, two shootings at Fort Hood, the Tucson shooting that injured then-Rep. Gabby Giffords, the Aurora movie theater shooting, the Washington Navy Yard shooting, a Sikh temple shooting in Wisconsin, the Charleston church shooting and the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. One day after the Parkland attack, the former President called for "common-sense gun safety laws" in a tweet. The former President and first lady have previously expressed praise for the Parkland students. He tweeted later last month, "Young people have helped lead all our great movements. How inspiring to see it again in so many smart, fearless students standing up for their right to be safe; marching and organizing to remake the world as it should be. We've been waiting for you. And we've got your backs."And the former first lady wrote, "I'm in total awe of the extraordinary students in Florida. Like every movement for progress in our history, gun reform will take unyielding courage and endurance. But @barackobama and I believe in you, we're proud of you, and we're behind you every step of the way." 2581

Gretchen Whitmer by a group called the "Wolverine Watchmen," has been released from jail on bail.Court records show Higgins paid his ,000 cash bail on Monday. Whitmer.Court records claim Higgins traveled to western Michigan with the militia group last month to surveil Whitmer’s vacation home in preparation for the abduction.Higgins' status conference was scheduled for Nov. 18, 2020.This story was first reported by Jackson Danbeck at TMJ4 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 1122

Brett Favre thinks Colin Kaepernick will be stamped with "hero status," and believes the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback should get another chance to play in the NFL.The Packers legend made the comments in an interview with TMZ Sports on Sunday.Favre also compared Kaepernick to Pat Tillman, the former Arizona Cardinals safety who left his football career to serve in the United States Army and was killed in Afghanistan in 2004 as a result of friendly fire."It's not easy for a guy his age - Black, white, Hispanic, whatever - to stop something that you've always dreamed of doing and put it on hold maybe forever for something that you believe in," Favre said in the interview."I can only think of, off the top of my head, Pat Tillman's the only other guy that did something similar," Favre said. "And we regard him as a hero. I assume that hero status will be stamped with Kaepernick as well."Favre also said he believes Kaepernick could still play in the NFL."I think from a football sense, I can't imagine him being that far out of shape or that far out of touch with football that he doesn't deserve a shot," Favre said."I thought he was a dynamic player," he continued. "And he's still young and hasn't been hit in several years so there's no reason to think that he's lost that much of a step."Kaepernick has not played since the 2016 season when he began kneeling during the pregame national anthem as a way to protest police brutality and racial injustice. He opted out of his contract in March of 2017 and has not received much interest from NFL teams. The 32-year-old Wisconsin native has been in the news again lately after recent protests have brought further awareness to the issues he was protesting. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said earlier this month he would encourage an NFL team to sign Kaepernick.WGBA's Brandon Kinnard first reported this story. 1886

Barron Trump, the teenage son of President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump, was among those in the White House who tested positive for the coronavirus in recent weeks. In a post authored by the first lady, she recalled her experience with the coronavirus.“Luckily he is a strong teenager and exhibited no symptoms,” Melania Trump said. “In one way I was glad the three of us went through this at the same time so we could take care of one another and spend time together. He has since tested negative."The first lady said that her symptoms from the coronavirus were “minimal.”“I was very fortunate as my diagnosis came with minimal symptoms, though they hit me all at once and it seemed to be a roller coaster of symptoms in the days after,” Melania Trump wrote. “I experienced body aches, a cough and headaches, and felt extremely tired most of the time. I chose to go a more natural route in terms of medicine, opting more for vitamins and healthy food. We had wonderful caretakers around us and we will be forever grateful for the medical care and professional discretion we received from Dr. (Sean) Conley and his team.”President Trump confirmed he and the first lady tested positive for the coronavirus in the early morning hours of October 2. Later that day, the president was admitted into Walter Reed Medical Center after seeing a high fever and difficulty breathing.Trump spent 72 hours in the hospital before returning to the White House.
