SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police Monday identified the suspect who reportedly threatened officers with a knife before being shot in the Midway District last week. According to police, Ryan Bowers, 23, was shot by Officer Matthew Steinbach after raising a knife toward officers. Police responded to the 3100 block of Cauby Street just before 10 p.m. January 3 after a caller said Bowers cut his own throat with a knife before it was taken away. According to police, that’s when Bowers pulled a knife out of his jacket and raised it toward officers. The officers drew their weapons while telling Bowers to back up, which he refused to do. “Fearing for his safety, one officer fired his weapon at the male striking him at least once,” police said. Officers administered medical aid to Bowers until paramedics arrived and took him to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. 1036

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - NFL quarterback Drew Brees and his wife say a San Diego jeweler with lying and falsely represented the value of the jewelry sold to them.Vahid Moradi, founder of CJ Charles Jewelers in La Jolla, is accused of making friends with the Brees and then using his "relationship and position to induce" Brees to rely "on his false representations as to the investment quality and market value" of numerous diamonds, a lawsuit filed in San Diego said.In the lawsuit, Brees says he has spent multimillions of dollars in business with Moradi, purchasing jewelry as gifts and as investments.READ the lawsuit here."In total, [the Brees] invested approximately million in investment quality diamonds recommended by Moradi," the suit states. "The independent appraiser determined the true market value of the diamonds ... was approximately million less than the prices the [Brees] paid."Brees also alleges that Moradi "confessed he charged Plaintiffs a substantial markup," in one case charging a 550 percent markup, the suit alleges. Brees also argues that Moradi went so far as to conceal the true quality of the diamonds using "reflective and painted settings." Moradi has fought back against the allegation. A bevy of surveillance and streetlight video was released during the preliminary hearing for Kevin Cartwright and Lorena Espinoza, accused of killing of Tony Radda, 49.October 2018. Just before 3 p.m., store surveillance video shows a woman wearing a purple wig and sunglasses enter the store.Video shows Radda and the woman going towards the back, possibly to show her some merchandise. Right away, a man in a mask is seen trailing behind them, lurking. When Radda and the woman return, the man in the mask attacks Radda, dragging him out of camera range. Prosecutors believe that is when Radda was shot several times and killed.Soon after, the masked man is caught prying open a cash register. Prosecutors say while the woman took off in an SUV; the man walked away.According to prosecutors, that walk was captured by a string of streetlight cameras. In one of the videos - about 12 blocks away from the store - the man in the mask sheds it, revealing a face, police eventually identified as Cartwright. On Friday, the judge is expected to decide whether the two will go to trial. 1206

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are searching for the driver who struck a pedestrian with his vehicle before driving away in Hillcrest early Sunday morning. According to police, a 30-year-old man was crossing the street on the 1300 block of University when he was hit. Following the crash, the sedan fled the scene. The victim was taken to the hospital with a skull fracture and brain bleed. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 468

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Officers responding to a reported car crash in Sherman Heights early Thursday morning found a man in one of the vehicles suffering from gunshot wounds.At around 12 a.m., San Diego police officers were dispatched to 27th and K streets after a vehicle crash.When officers arrived, they found a car had slammed into at least one parked car.Inside one of the cars was a man with gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital, but he later died from his injuries, according to SDPD officials.Police learned the driver was heading south in the 300 block of 27th Street when some area residents reported hearing gunfire. The driver eventually collided with the parked vehicle in the 200 block of 27th Street.The victim was identified as a 25-year-old Hispanic male.SDPD’s Homicide Unit is investigating the incident. 835
