SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department gave 10News a behind the scenes look at the specially-trained team that solves arson cases. Inside Station One is the elite and highly specialized Metro Arson Strike Team, or MAST, made up of fire investigators, police detectives, ATF, FBI and a bomb squad. The team is dedicated solely to investigate arson. To be on the specialized team, MAST training goes beyond the fire academy. “You are wearing the hat of an electrical engineer, a scientist, a fire fighter, a report writer. We wear a lot of different hats and we have to be good at it,” said Captain James Shadoan. MAST spent the day with 10News demonstrating how they perform the task of solving an arson. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Padres are making their first playoff appearance since 2006, but unfortunately, no fans are allowed into Petco Park to watch thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, one big Padres fan will get to see the action from afar. You see Chip Messenger is able to watch the game from his fifteenth-floor balcony that overlooks the stadium."I tell you what, I love being here besides the concerts and the monster trucks, I love baseball season because it's the best especially winning baseball, which we haven't seen in a long time. It's amazing, as this building wasn't even here the last time the Padres were in the playoffs."Chip is a huge Padres fan, and although he's about fifty yards from the field, he makes sure his voice is always heard."it's going to be loud, " he says. "Especially with all the other balconies, I anticipate it will be a home-field advantage. I have a megaphone and I can be as loud as I need to with the megaphone."Chip normally watches about 80% of Padres home games from his balcony and while most seasons have been pretty tough, he says there is nothing better than playoff baseball."It's tough that we can't be in the stadium, but with the energy level they know we're here, they can here us we got horns and bells and whistles. The people who can see into the stadium are definitely supporting the team." 1364

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Thousands of people gathered in Balboa Park to support those living with Alzheimer’s disease. The annual “Walk for Alz” is one of the biggest Alzheimer’s awareness events in San Diego. Ken Darling has been participating in the event for the last 10 years.“My mom has passed but, I keep coming back to say thank you to an organization that helps other people going through this disease," Darling said. The Walk for Alz is put on by Alzheimer’s San Diego. The organization offers free resources to caregivers and family members of people in need.“It’s a family disease,” says Eugenia Welch, President of Alzheimer’s San Diego. “It effects so much more than just the person who is diagnosed because the whole family has to adjust their way of life to make sure that person is safe.”About 84,000 people in San Diego County are currently living with Alzheimer’s or another Dementia. That number is up from the 65,000 reported cases last year. Alzheimer’s San Diego says the goal for the event is to raise at least 0,000. All the money goes to resources in San Diego County.  1112

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The trial for a former San Diego County sheriff's deputy accused of sexual misconduct while wearing his uniform began Monday in Vista.More than a dozen women claim Deputy Richard Fischer made unwanted advances."I think he's a bad guy," a San Marcos woman, who filed ,000,000 claim against the County, said. She said in August of 2017 two sheriff's deputies knocked on her door in the middle of the night for a welfare check. There was no problem and they left but she said Fischer returned alone an hour later, saying he needed to use her restroom; then told her she was cute and hugged her, several times."I was stunned shocked, it was very fast and confusing...I felt very vulnerable, intimidated, felt weak. I felt little." She said, next to tears. "It's just a mess! Everything is a mess! This is hard to do. He shouldn't have come back to my house and I don't ... Everything's a mess!"Similar instances were described by other women. In October of 2017, near the entryway of a 64-year-old woman's condo, Fischer took her report for a domestic violence incident and then made his move."His hands went all the way down to her butt and he squeezed both of her buttocks... he took her hand and pulled it down to his groin area," Lawyer Dan Gilleon said. He represents several women who filed claims against Fischer.Gilleon made a theme apparent, "he knows that she's alone, and she's vulnerable, and she's scared." Another victim called him a predator. Some women who came forward claim Fischer became more brazen, forcing sexual acts.Wednesday a plea deal fell through. The deal would mean Fischer would plead guilty to four felony charges -- down from more than 12 felonies -- and serve no more than five years in prison.10News learned that Fischer would also have to register as a sex offender for life under the plea deal.Fischer faces more than 25 years in prison if convicted of all charges. He has emphatically denied the allegations.Read Related:7th woman accuses San Diego County Sheriff's Deputy Richard Fischer of inappropriate behavior5th accuser accuses San Diego Sheriff's deputy of inappropriate behaviorSecond woman accuses San Diego Sheriff's deputy of inappropriate behaviorSan Diego County sheriff's deputy accused of sexual misconduct pleads not guilty 2300
