BEIJING, June 21 (Xinhua) -- A senior Communist Party of China official Monday said China is ready to enhance cooperation with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).Li Yuanchao, head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks when meeting with a delegation of the Workers' Party of Korea, which was led by Kim Chang Ryong, the DPRK's Minister of Land and Environment Protection, in Beijing.Hailing the constant growth of China-DPRK relations, Li, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, reviewed the successful visit by the DPRK top leader Kim Jong Il in May.Chinese President Hu Jintao and Kim Jong Il reached important consensus on promoting bilateral pragmatic cooperation during that visit.China would work with the DPRK to fulfill the consensus and expand bilateral cooperation to push forward China-DPRK relations, Li said.Kim Chang Ryong said the DPRK held the unswerving policy of cementing and promoting friendship with China. The DPRK would work with China to enhance ties in accordance with the willingness of top leaders from both sides.The DPRK delegation is in China on a visit from June 12 to 22 at the invitation of the CPC. And now, the loss of another loved one in a family of four is too much for the introverted 16-year-old to deal with.Yang Zhenmei, a volunteer psychology counselor from the provincial capital Kunming, traveled 930 km to the disaster area to offer help for young people like Yu.She held a brief psychological intervention session with the boy, had patient conservations with him and told him to refrain from aggressive behavior. She also told him to call her if he feels overwhelmed by difficulties.But not many people are as lucky as Yu, who receives the kind of psychological services rarely seen in Litoudi Village, a remote mountainous village in China's southwest Yunnan Province, which borders Myanmar. In a village with a population of a little more than 150, medical resources are scarce.Litoudi Village has only one doctor. Usually, local residents have to travel seven km to be treated in a hospital at the township seat of Puladi.Soon after the mudslides, about 130 doctors and nurses from Gongshan and Fugong Counties rushed to the scene, though none of them had previously received psychological training, except for a handful of doctors who had taken psychology courses back in college.Moreover, the focus of the medical services in the immediate aftermath was on treating the injured, helping rescuers with minor injuries and preventing outbreaks of diseases.Authorities have said 92 people were killed or remain missing following the massive mudslides that swept the village.Torrents of mud and gigantic stones smashed and buried the Yujin Iron Mine and about 10 civilian residences at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. BEIJING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Beijing launched a one-month household registration survey on Sunday in preparation for the once-a-decade census of China, the world's most populous country, which begins in November.A total of 100,000 uniformed census takers will go door-to-door in Beijing from Aug. 15 to Sept. 15, along with policemen, to check each household's current residential information, said a spokesman with the sixth national population census' Beijing office.Foreigners and residents of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan will also be surveyed for the first time, except those on short-term business or sightseeing trips, according to a census regulation jointly issued by the State Council and the National Bureau of Statistics in May."This is because the upcoming national census seeks to survey 'every natural person' in China and Chinese citizens who live abroad but have not obtained long-term living permits," said Su Hui, director of the office.The survey aims to count the total number of Beijing residents and to correct false household registration information and provide accurate information for the sixth national census, he said.Experts say that many households do not unregister their deceased family members so they might continue collecting social insurance funds from the government. Also, some children born in violation of the country's "one child" policy were also not registered.All information collected in this survey will be kept confidential, and will not be used for other purposes, Su added.Since the founding of the People's Republic in 1949, China has conducted national population censuses in 1953,1964,1982,1990 and 2000.The last census, a decade ago, set China's population at 1.29533 billion people.

PARIS, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Legislative bodies of China and France launched their regular parliamentary exchange mechanism on Thursday, vowing to further push forward the Sino-French comprehensive strategic partnership.Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of Chinese National People's Congress (NPC), and Bernard Accoyer, speaker of the French National Assembly, jointly declared the beginning of the first meeting of Sino-French Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.Wu said the launch of the high-level meeting between the two legislative bodies signals the Sino-French parliamentary exchanges were promoted to a new stage.Accoyer said the regular parliamentary exchange mechanism could serve as an important platform for both nations to exchange views on mutual concerns and promote bilateral cooperation in politics, technology, new energy and environmental protection.Ahead of the meeting, Wu and Accoyer held talks on bilateral ties and parliamentary cooperation.Accoyer said France attached great importance to Wu's visit as Wu is the first Chinese top legislator that visited France in 13 years.France regards China as a strategic partner, expecting to expand all-round strategic cooperation with China, boost coordination on international issues, through joint efforts against global financial crisis, climate change and other challenges, he said.Wu said his ongoing visit to France is aimed to build a closer relation between the Chinese NPC and the French National Assembly.
