SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — In San Diego Comic-Con's first foray as an online-only event, fans experienced some benefits and pitfalls of a virtual convention.While fans had arguably the most access to Comic-Con content ever, there were still some aspects that couldn't be recreated digitally. At the same time, that's all right. No waiting in Hall H's line. No attending an earlier panel to save a seat for a later event. Every panel was streamed on Comic-Con's website and most were made available on YouTube afterward for fans to catch. Exclusive content aired during panels also made their way onto the internet arguably faster than previous years. While the glitz of seeing stars, artists, and writers in person was missing, the heart of enjoying a panel for its presentation was still there.What didn't: ExclusivesAdmittedly, Comic-Con isn't just about exclusive merchandise. But many attendees enjoy being able to score gear that you'll only get at SDCC — for resale or to keep. However, when it came to exclusives, internet connection and website servers were at the will of how many people logged onto their site. So when something was highly sought after, websites saw a lot of traffic — sometimes too much. In the case of several popular merchandisers — like Funko, Mondo, or Hasbro — exclusives often sold out quickly, sometimes before the convention even occurred. What worked: "Off-site" experiencesOff-site experiences outside the convention center have become as much of Comic-Con as the exhibit hall inside the center. With the convention online, some exhibitors took the opportunity to host some unique games and activities on their own websites. FX Unlocked showcased its lineup of FX shows with games, trivia, and digital extras, while Amazon held its own virtual con to showcase its products and Amazon Prime shows. FutureTechLive! also put together a virtual World Builders activation for users to unleash their imagination.What didn't: CosplayOne of the best parts of Comic-Con is seeing everyone dressed up as their favorite characters waltzing around downtown San Diego. Where else can you run into Kirk and Spock or Batman enjoying a bite to eat in broad daylight? While the convention did its best to showcase cosplayers online with a "masquerade ball" via Tumblr, it just isn't quite the same as being at the event in-person. What worked: Connecting with fansHosting Comic-Con online ensured fans can connect with their favorite comic book writers, artists, and even entertainers. Without having to manage a tight schedule of going location to location for panels and events, users could simply log on and watch a panel, win some free swag in some cases, or reach out to comic book writers and artists for commissions or to purchase their work. No walking through a packed Artist Alley or standing in line for a free t-shirt — though some may argue that's part of the appeal.What didn't: Recreating being thereSDCC made several activities available online ahead of the convention, like signs and badges to print out to dress your home for the event. A virtual exhibit floor was also offered online and while fun, was a bit tricky to navigate on your phone. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Immigration rights advocates in San Diego are worried about the impact of President Trump's promised mass deportation. In a pair of tweets Monday night, President Trump said that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement would next week "begin the process of removing the millions of illegal aliens who have illicitly found their way into the United States."Benjamin Prado is the program coordinator for the U.S. Mexico Border Program with the American Friends Service Committee. Prado says the tweets are causing concern and confusion.“We’re not sure because of the tweets, they are just so random, and very limited in scope and depth," said Prado. ICE agents carried out an immigration crack down at the Zion Supermarket in Clairemont Mesa back in February. Twenty-six workers were detained. "Our communities have experienced all kinds of things, whether it be on transportation, roving patrols, that border patrol has done in the past,”said Prado. He said his members started watching their communities long before the president's latest tweet. "Our community members are mobilizing, have been mobilizing even before this tweet, and have been out in the community, making sure Immigration and Customs Enforcement doesn’t go and separate families," said Prado. Immigration attorney Edward Orendain said the enforcement action would likely target people who have skipped out on their hearings or who have been given final deportation orders. "Apparently, this is going to be targeted more toward people who already have outstanding deportation orders or orders of deportation. Initially, that may seem to be a good thing, but I know, because I have several clients, that a significant number of the people who already have final orders of deportation are under supervised release, which means local immigration already knows of them, but they’re allowed to stay in the United States usually for humanitarian purposes," said Orendain. Orendain says he has one client, who was given final deportation orders, but is on supervised release because she has an ill son who is a U.S. citizen. "She's been removed a couple of times, but she has a U.S citizen child who has severe medical and developmental issues and really can’t get the standard of care in his home country,so the government knows about her, knows that she has final orders of removal or deportation, but allows her to stay here as a humanitarian issue," said Orendain. It's estimated more than 200,000 undocumented workers are in San Diego County. Orendain said he hopes the president's tweet has more to do with politics than any actual plan. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Hundreds showed up to walk in the annual Friendship Walk at Liberty Station on Sunday. This year, the walk was also in honor of Lori Kaye, the only fatal victim in the Poway Synagogue shooting in April. Friends say Kaye was a long-time supporter of the Friendship Circle, a non-profit that provides support and friendship to special needs individuals and their families. Last year, Kaye donated all of the shirts for everyone at the walk. This year, everyone wore shirts that said "Walk for Lori" The walk raised over ,000 for The Friendship Circle. 581

Duncan Hunter, changed her plea to guilty to one count of conspiracy in a plea deal with the federal government over misused campaign funds Thursday.As part of a plea deal with prosecutors, Margaret Hunter will testify against her husband in his upcoming trial in September. The congressman and his wife both pleaded not guilty in 2018 to federal charges of using 0,000 in campaign funds for personal use and falsifying campaign finance reports. "Defendant agrees to plead guilty to Count One of the Indictment charging her with conspiring with co-defendant Duncan D. Hunter to knowingly and willfully convert Duncan D. Duncan Hunter issued a statement which reads:"I do not have the full details of Margaret’s case, but it's obvious that the Department of Justice (DOJ) went after her to get to me for political reasons. As Margaret’s case concludes, she should be left alone. I am the Congressman, this is my campaign and any further attention on this issue should be directed solely to me. The DOJ’s prosecutorial actions in this case were led by local U.S. Attorneys who attended Hillary Clinton fundraisers in violation of the Hatch Act. The fact remains that this entire matter should have been handled by the Federal Elections Commission (FEC). The DOJ purposely choosing to involve itself in the area where the FEC has primary jurisdiction reveals that their primary agenda was to inflict as much political damage as possible in hopes of picking up a congressional seat.
