(KGTV) - Experts from the San Diego Zoo have been sent to Madagascar to help care for nearly 11,000 tortoises discovered in a massive poaching bust.The April 10 discovery by local police found the tortoises covering virtually every room in the raided home. "This is an overwhelming situation, where we recognize that every individual we save may make the difference between this species’ long-term survival and its extinction. We have to help."Crews are working to relocate the surviving tortoises to SOPTOM-Villages des Tortues, a 17-acre private wildlife facility in Ifaty, for further care.Zoo officials say radiated tortoise populations have declined more than 80 percent in the last 30 years. (KGTV) — An Amber Alert was issued to counties across California for a 4-year-old girl abducted by her non-custodial mother in Washington.The alert was issued for a 2005, red Chevy Cobalt with Washington state license plate "BLK 1552" just after 1 p.m. by California Highway Patrol on behalf of the Vancouver Police Department.Vancouver Police say Aranza Maria Ochoa Lopez, 4, was taken on Oct. 25, by her mother, 21-year-old Esmeralda Lynn Lopez. Authorities believe the mother may be intending to head to Mexico.Esmeralda Lopez is described as a Hispanic female, standing 5-feet tall, and weighing about 138 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes. Aranza is described as a Hispanic female, with blond hair and blue eyes.The alert was sent to the following California counties: Marin, Napa, Contra Costa, San Joaquin, Alameda, Santa Clara, San Mateo, Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Benito, Merced, Fresno, Kings, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Kern, Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, Riverside, Stanislaus, Merced, Madera, and Tulare.Anyone with information of the pair's whereabouts is asked to call 911.10News is monitoring this breaking news. 1190

(KGTV) — After a weeks-long closure due to mudslides and debris, Highway 18 from San Bernardino to Big Bear Lake has reopened.The highway has been closed since February after heavy rainfall prompted mudslides in some areas, forcing crews to repair damage to the highway.Snow fell on Big Bear Mountain Resort Wendesday with more snow expected Thursday night into Friday, continuing the mountain's flurry of snowfall this season. Currently, officials say they have about 60 inches of snow at the resort's peak and 44 inches at its base.This season, 128 inches of snow have hit the resort, making it prime for locals looking to ski, board, or just frolic in the snow this season.The route into Snow Valley Mountain Resort also reopened as the resort saw 34 inches of snow by Saturday morning. 797
