PARIS, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao's coming visit to France will help the two countries consolidate consensus on bilateral ties and major international issues, Chinese Ambassador to France Kong Quan said Monday.Kong made the remarks during a joint interview by Chinese media. He said Hu's visit, slated for Nov. 4-6, showed Sino-French relations were going into a new period of all-round, healthy and rapid development.In the face of complicated and profound changes in the international situation, Hu and his French counterpart, Nicolas Sarkozy, would discuss how to work together to highlight the strategic nature of the partnership between the two countries, Kong said.The two countries were now enjoying accelerated development of comprehensive and sound bilateral ties with increasing exchanges in politics, trade and economy and culture and science, the ambassador said.Drastic changes in the world political and economic situation made France and China realize the importance of reinforcing mutual understanding and communication, as well as the necessity to deepen cooperation in a bid to safeguard world peace and development as well as the long-term interests of their respective countries, he said.Kong said that enhanced bilateral exchanges and cooperation and consolidated partnership between China and France was in line with their fundamental interests as well as their expectations.Since the two countries differed in national condition, social system,stage of economic development and culture and history, it was natural for them to have certain different views and stands, he said."What's more important is that the leaders and peoples of the two nations agree to promote candid dialogue and exchanges to enhance understanding and trust on the basis of mutual respect."Meanwhile, they should also attach importance to each other's core interests and major concerns, Kong stressed.According to the ambassador, the two sides were ready to pledge joint efforts to ensure a sustained and sound development of friendly bilateral ties and cooperation.With regard to bilateral economic ties, Kong said bilateral trade between China and France had been growing rapidly on a reciprocal basis.Trade and economic cooperation between the two had seen an average annual growth rate of about 18 percent over the past 10 years, he said.The rapid growth in bilateral trade reflected the interdependence and complementary nature of the two economies, he said.Great efforts should be made in three major areas to expand bilateral trade and economic cooperation, he said.Firstly, the two countries should deepen cooperation in such traditional areas as aviation, energy and transport, Kong said.Bilateral cooperation in emerging fields such as finance, new energy, new material, low-carbon technology and sustainable development should also be stepped up, he said.The ambassador also highlighted the importance of carrying out cooperation at the level of regional governments.Regarding the upcoming G-20 summit in Seoul, Kong said France and China had maintained good cooperation within the framework.He also called for countries around the world to strengthen cooperation and implement the consensus reached at the previous G-20 summits to consolidate global economic recovery.

HEFEI, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- China's top 500 enterprises reported smaller revenue gaps with their U.S. counterparts, while outperforming their worldwide competitors in profitability amid the nation's rapid economic recovery, an industrial ranking report showed Saturday.China's top 500 enterprises chalked up 4.05 trillion U.S. dollars in operating revenues last year, equivalent to about 18 percent of the operating revenue total created by the world's top 500 companies in the same year, and the ratio was 2.62 percentage points lower than the figure recorded for the year earlier, according to a report released Saturday in Hefei, capital of east China's Anhui Province, by the China Enterprise Confederation (CEC) and China Enterprise Directors Association.The average profit margin of China's top 500 enterprises was 5.44 percent in 2009, compared with 4.16 percent for the world's top 500 companies.Further, the net profits of the Chinese heavyweights grew by more than 20 percent last year, faster than the 17 percent for the world's top 500. It was the second consecutive year that Chinese enterprises outshone theirforeign counterparts in annual profits.Miao Rong, researcher with CEC, said despite the progress, China's top 500 enterprises obviously suffered from the impact of the global financial crisis as they reported slower growth in new employment and business revenues.However, unlike the world's top 500 companies, most of which are service and high tech giants, a lion's share of China's top 500 businesses are traditional industrial enterprises in the fields of energy development, telecommunications and power generation, Miao noted."It is a tough job, in the short-term, to make Chinese corporations catch up with their foreign counterparts in terms of 'soft power' , such as the capability of resource integration, management expertise, brand building and intellectual property protection," he added.Sinopec, Asia's leading refinery, topped the top 500 revenue list for the fifth consecutive year with 1.39 trillion yuan (about 204.41 billion U.S. dollars) in 2009. It was followed by the State Grid and PetroChina.Also, private businesses were growing rapidly as five companies reported operating revenues exceeding 100 billion yuan. Huawei Technology Co Ltd, a telecommunication equipment producer, recently leaped into the world's top 500 enterprises club.

TIANJIN, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations' chief climate change negotiator applauded China on Monday for its efforts in dealing with the challenge of climate change, saying she was impressed by the determination of the Chinese people and their government.Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change(UNFCCC), made the remarks in China's northern city of Tianjin at a welcoming reception held by the Chinese government.A new round of UN climate talks is being held in the port city on Oct. 4-9 in preparation for the year-end Cancun summit in Mexico."Here in Tianjin, I have seen much evidence of determination," said Figueres."(I saw the) determination of the government of China to reduce their CO2 emissions per unit of GDP by up to 45 percent by 2020, (and the) determination of the people of China to turn China into the world's leader in renewable energy technology and to find a visionary balance among economic development, poverty eradication and climate protection."Figueres also praised the host city, saying, "(I saw the) determination of the government of Tianjin, China's fourth-largest city, to be a model city for the circular economy, a pilot city for low-carbon growth and an exemplary city for sustainable development.""A striking example is the Tianjin Eco-City project between Singapore and China and with significant private sector investment, which will provide eco-friendly housing for some 350,000 people," she added.More than 3,000 delegates from 177 parties and observer states and over 200 non-governmental organizations are attending the Tianjin gathering, the final one prior to the United Nations Climate Change Conference to be held in Cancun at the end of this year.Figueres concluded her speech at the reception with a Chinese proverb, "Zhong Zhi Cheng Cheng," which means "With everyone's determination, we can do anything." He is also to attend the a China-EU summit in Brussels and then continue his four-nation visit which also will take him to Italy and Turkey.
