CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — A South Bay postal worker has pleaded not guilty to firing pepper spray at a dog. Nestor Medina was charged with three counts of animal cruelty in connection with the encounters 10News first reported in Otay Mesa last March. “It’s heartbreaking,” Alfonso Galindo said. Galindo checked surveillance video of his home on Agosto Street. Cameras recorded a postal carrier walking up to Galindo's mailbox and past the metal front gate. Behind the gate is Pupa, and as the mail carrier places the mail in the mailbox, a cylindrical object is seen in his left hand. At the same time, from another camera, Pupa is seen behind the gate beginning to convulse for several minutes. Galindo said his children, 3-year-old Alfonso Jr. and 1-year-old Regina developed strange respiratory problems after hugging Pupa. "Countless trips to the ER and urgent care, and countless medications," said Galindo. While the most severe symptoms subsided soon after the discovery of the video, Galindo says his children are dealing with sinus issues and his daughter still requires an inhaler.RELATED: More dogs pepper-sprayed by mail carrier?Galindo filed a police report and complaint with the U.S. Postal Service last spring. He says he has obtained an attorney and is planning legal action against the USPS.The USPS issued a statement in March: On behalf of the United States Postal Service, we want to apologize to the Galindo family and Pupa. CHULA VISTA, Calif., (KGTV)- It has been one week since the brutal attack and rape of a young woman at Otay Park. But Chula Vista Police say their investigation is far from over. Now nearby schools are reminding parents to stay vigilant. Chula Vista Police said last Monday, a woman in her 20’s was exercising on the stairs at Otay Park. But on her way down, someone pushed her from behind, knocking her unconscious.The perpetrator then raped her, stole her things, and ran.When she woke up, she managed to flag someone down at the park, who then called 9-1-1.It has been seven days into the investigation. But the Chula Vista police department says the perpetrator is still at large. Detectives are now reviewing and enhancing several pieces of video evidence.They are also waiting to get the results of the victim’s rape kit. Last week, Otay Elementary School Pirincipal, Monica Castillo sent a letter to parents addressing the recent crime that happened next to school property. 1009

(KGTV) -- Dozens of South Bay parents want to know why the principal at their neighborhood school was unceremoniously removed from her post right before the school closed for Fall Break. “I’m very frustrated,” said Greg Rogers Elementary PTA President Caroline Garvin. Garvin said she learned Friday that the Chula Vista Elementary School District reassigned Principal Erika Taylor.  A district spokesman said Taylor was reassigned as a Principal on Special Assignment in special education. Garvin said the Rogers faculty was told Friday towards the end of the school day. “The looks on the face of the staff:  There were people crying.  There were people that were upset because she was a true leader,” she said.  “To take that away from us without explanation and to do it before a break so that parents can’t even be here to help fight for her is just wrong to me.” All the schools in the Chula Vista Elementary School District are closed for the next two weeks for Fall Break. Garvin said there are a lot of parents upset about Taylor’s removal.  Garvin said she confronted CVESD Superintendent Dr. Francisco Escobedo. “He said he would not be able to give an explanation not now and not in the future,” she recalled. In the meantime, Garvin said Taylor has hired a lawyer to fight for her job back. “She’s got three kids.  She’s a single mom,” said Garvin. “I’m really proud of her.  I want her to fight this.” 1529

(KGTV) – Police are investigating the death of a woman whose nude body was found in the middle of a Chula Vista street early Thursday morning.At around 12:30 a.m., a person called 911 to report a naked woman lying face down in the middle of the 200 block of Shasta Street, near Second Avenue.Responding police officers checked the woman and found she was not breathing and had no pulse.Despite CPR attempts, the woman -- described as Hispanic, in her 20s, and a Chula Vista resident -- was declared dead at the scene.Police told ABC 10News there was no immediate indication the woman was struck by a vehicle. On Friday, police identified the victim as 33-year-old Laura Rodriguez.Chula Vista police Lt. Dan Peak said, "It's very suspicious at this time. The manner of death is unknown. At this time, we don't know why this person was here and why they were left here in the roadway."Officers are questioning neighborhood residents as part of their investigation."It's a bit of a shock. This is a very quiet neighborhood ... About 20 minutes before she was found, I heard a vehicle revving up its engine and going around the corner," said neighbor Roger Murray.The Chula Vista Police Department is trying to locate witnesses or anyone with information regarding Rodriguez's death. (KGTV) - Chula Vista Police and Sweetwater Union High School District security personnel trained Thursday to protect South Bay schools.The 6th annual Security Work Group Training, held on L St. in Chula Vista, was held to share security measures.The event was pre-planned and not related to the Parkland school shooting in Florida Wednesday, officials said.Chula Vista Police say they work with school resource officers to monitor situation both on and off campus. "They're handling kids that bring knives, drugs, maybe have made threats," said captain Vern Sallee. "I've gotten calls at midnight on a Saturday night that somebody posted something on social media. We would rather chance down false leads all day long than have to follow up on a real lead after a tragedy."The Sweetwater district says they have one of most comprehensive training sessions in the county. Their schools are required to do two emergency lock down drills each year.  989
