The Florida Bar is investigating Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz after his threatening tweet last night about President Donald Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen.Francine Andía Walker, the group's director of communications, said the Florida Bar received a number of calls and emails regarding the tweet after it posted.According to disciplinary guidelines for the group, which is the organization of all lawyers licensed by the Supreme Court of Florida to practice law in the state, the state bar's lawyer regulation arm must determine that an allegation against a bar member "would constitute a violation of the Rules Regulating The Florida Bar" before a probe is opened.On Tuesday night, just hours ahead of Cohen's public testimony before the House Oversight Committee, Gaetz -- a Trump ally -- tweeted at Cohen, "Do your wife & father-in-law know about your girlfriends? Maybe tonight would be a good time for that chat. I wonder if she'll remain faithful when you're in prison. She's about to learn a lot..."Gaetz later deleted his tweet and issued an apology.As part of their investigation, Walker said the Florida Bar on Wednesday would send Gaetz a letter outlining the allegation against him. Gaetz will have 15 days to respond.The Daily Beast first reported the investigation Wednesday."It seems that the Florida Bar, by its rules, is required to investigate even the most frivolous of complaints," said Jillian Lane Wyant, a spokeswoman for Gaetz, when asked for a response to the investigation.A state bar investigation is not a criminal probe, and in Florida, there are further layers of investigation that the probe will go through before any potential disciplinary action is brought down by the Florida Supreme Court.Rules regulating the Florida Bar say that "a lawyer's conduct should conform to the requirements of the law, both in professional service to clients and in the lawyer's business and personal affairs. The Democrat-led House Ways and Means Committee is suing the Treasury Department, the IRS and their respective leaders, Steve Mnuchin and Charles Rettig, according to the federal court in Washington.House Ways and Means Chairman Richard Neal is seeking the President's tax returns using a little-known IRS provision known as 6103, which allows the Chairmen of the House Ways and Means Committee and the Senate Finance Committee to request and obtain an individual's tax information for a legitimate legislative purpose.The move comes months after Neal made his initial request for the President's tax information and as outside groups and other liberals on the Ways and Means Committee grew impatient with the pace of Neal's efforts. Neal initially made his request for Trump's tax returns on April 3. After a series of follow-up letters, the Treasury Department formally denied the request at the beginning of May, and Neal issued subpoenas to the IRS and Treasury Department on May 10.Democrats had argued that under 6103 authority, Neal did not need to issue a subpoena, but internal deliberations with House Counsel got Neal to the point where the advice was that a subpoena could bolster the case in court. The Democrats on Neal's committee have argued that they need access to the President's tax returns in order to understand how the IRS administers the presidential audit program. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating a deadly shooting early Monday morning at the Islamic Society of Tampa Bay.Deputies say just before midnight, two men got into an argument in the parking lot outside the mosque during a Ramadan event attended by several hundred people.At some point during the argument, one of the men fired at the other.An off-duty deputy, who had just finished working security detail at the event, heard the gun shots and rushed to the parking lot.The Sheriff's Office reports the deputy found one man holding a gun and another man who had been shot at least two times. The deputy detained the suspect shooter until additional units arrived on scene.Paramedics rushed the victim to Tampa General Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.Authorities say the public is not in danger. They believe the two men knew one other and were both attending prayer services at the mosque.Homicide detectives are interviewing the shooter who is cooperating. They want to determine the nature of the argument and whether the shooting could be classified as self defense.No charges have been filed.The Sheriff's Office says there is no indication the shooting is in any way related to a terror attack and only appears to be a dispute between the two people involved. 1309

The Mid-American Conference Basketball Tournament in Cleveland will not be open to the general public due to concerns about the coronavirus. Officials said the tournament will continue as scheduled from Wednesday through Saturday. However, only credentialed institutional personnel, student-athlete family members, credentialed media crews, and official team party members will be allowed to attend games. “The safety of all is our greatest concern. Since January, I have stated that any decision would follow the advice of state governmental officials and medical professionals. Following the feedback we received today we have taken this action which is in alignment with the recommendation of Governor DeWine,” said Mid-American Conference Commissioner, Dr. Jon Steinbrecher.The University of Akron has decided to cancel their pre-game rally at Pizza 216. “We fully support the health concerns and recommendations outline by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine today,” Zips’ Director of Athletics Larry Williams said. “At the same time, it is hard to describe how disappointed we are that all of our wonderful alumni, supporters and fans are not going to be able to attend this special event in person. And, it is so very disappointing the student athletes will not be able to enjoy the passion reflected by the raucous crowds that always come out to support their Zips.
