SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A sailor who was rescued at sea off San Onofre State Beach in San Clemente was taken to San Diego by the Coast Guard Monday.The man called Joint Harbor Operations in San Diego about 11:20 a.m. to report his 18-foot boat was taking on water 12 miles offshore.“I tried a couple of things to fix the problem and couldn’t figure out where the water was coming in from,” Gillest said.He was able to radio the Coast Guard for help, who sent a helicopter crew to rescue him.“I was in contact with the pilot. He said if the stern starts going underwater, its time to get away from the boat,” Gillest said.  “The uncertainty was when I was getting out to me, watching it fill with water, I was like who’s going to get out here? Am I going to be in the water before anyone gets here?”By around 12:45 p.m., the boat began to sink and Gillest was forced to jump into the water. Gillest, who is retired military and a strong swimmer, says he was in the water for about 10 minutes.The Coast Guard deployed a rescue swimmer and basket into the water, who was able to reach Gillest, put him into the basket, and hoist him up into the chopper. “Not really scared because I know the coast guard guys and they’re awesome,” Gillest said, “Everything went textbook.” 1282

According to the San Diego Police Department, Jose Corona went missing from the Jamacha-Lomita neighborhood at some point during the day Saturday, but was located Sunday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A San Diego International Airport TSA employee and worker at an airport vendor have both tested positive for coronavirus, the airport and TSA confirmed.San Diego International officials also confirmed that they were notified by an airport tenant that one of their employees has tested positive for coronavirus. No information was given as to which tenant the employee worked for and when they last worked.TSA officials say the screening officer worked the 2 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. shift at the airport's checkpoint 6, which is located in Terminal 2. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man was arrested after police say he stabbed his friend, then returned to watching a UFC fight.The stabbing happened on the 3000 block of Midway Drive around 9:15 p.m. Saturday. Police say the two friends took a Lyft from downtown to the Midway District when they got into a fight.After leaving the car, the pair’s argument became even more heated before the suspect, Paul McNett, 43, wrapped his arm around the victim’s neck and stabbed him in the front of his neck.RELATED: Man shot during road rage incident in Del CerroAfter the stabbing, McNett stayed at the restaurant to watch the UFC fight.The 55-year-old victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
