BERLIN, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived in the German capital Berlin late Wednesday for an official visit to the country.     The premier is scheduled to meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Vice Chancellor Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Thursday to discuss bilateral relations and further cooperation between the two nations amid the global financial downturn.     Upon his arrival, Wen said in a statement that currently Sino-German relations are faced with a sound opportunity of development.     The two nations have maintained frequent high-level contacts, and economic and trade cooperation has been expanding steadily, Wen said.     Both sides also witnessed fruitful dialogues on such fields as science and technology, education, culture, and youth exchanges, he noted.     Bilateral consultation and coordination on international affairs have also been strengthened, he added.     The premier expected his meeting with Merkel would further enhance mutual trust and broaden consensus between the two nations.     Wen also expressed the belief that his visit will further push forward the Sino-German partnership, which bears a global responsibility.     Meanwhile, the premier, on behalf of the Chinese people, extended Chinese lunar new year greetings and good wishes to the German people.     During his two-day visit to Germany, Wen will also attend a forum on Sino-German economic and technical cooperation and deliver a speech.     Germany is the second leg of Wen's European tour after Switzerland, where he attended the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF). The trip will also take him to the European Union headquarters, Spain and Britain. 

BEIJING, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- China's Foreign Ministry has demanded that the U.S. Embassy to China facilitate travel for the families of those killed and injured in Friday's tour bus crash near the Hoover Dam in Arizona. In a statement released Sunday, the ministry confirmed that six Chinese nationals died and nine were injured, including one from Hong Kong.     The Chinese Embassy in the United States and Consulate General in Los Angeles immediately dispatched a team assist U.S. authorities with treating the injured and investigating the accident. BEIJING, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government vowed to beef up vocational training for migrant workers, college graduates and laid-off workers, who were badly hit by the global financial crisis, to help them land jobs, according to a joint circular issued by three ministries.     Local government should offer the migrant workers necessary training to help them find jobs in the railway and infrastructure construction, power sector and rebuilding of the quake-hit areas, according to the joint circular issued by the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.     Vocational schools and technical training institutions should enhance training for people who were affected by the crisis, and work out programs to help them find new jobs, said the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security on Sunday.     China's urban unemployment rate was 4.2 percent at the end of 2008, up 0.2 percentage points year on year, according to official figures.

 BEIJING, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- The General Political Department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) has issued a notice ordering all members of the PLA and the Chinese People's Armed Police Corps (PAPC) to study a recent instruction on value made byHu Jintao, chairman of the Central Military Commission.     Addressing a recent military conference, Hu urged servicemen to strengthen their spiritual pillar and foster the core value of "Beloyal to the Party, love the people, serve the nation, be devoted to the mission, and worship credit."     Hu's instruction has put forward a major strategic task for ideological and political building of the Army under the new historic conditions, said the notice. It urges the whole armed forces to seriously study and implement the important instruction of Hu, who is also China's president and general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.     The "core value for contemporary revolutionary soldiers" raised by Hu holds the key for ideological and political building of the Army, it says, adding that it is of "great realistic significance and far-reaching historic importance."     The core value reflects the relations between Chinese servicemen and the Party, the people, the nation and the Army, as well as the most fundamental and the innermost value among Chinese servicemen, it says.     The core value reflects an integration of the Chinese Army's good traditions, the demands of the development of the times, and the pursuit of value by Chinese soldiers and officers, according to the circular.

  BEIJING, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- Premier Wen Jiabao has urged Chinese companies to stress innovation to combat the impact of global economic turmoil.     Wen made the remarks as he visited companies, markets, communities and rural areas in China's eastern Shandong Province over the first two days of 2009. He sought to reassure people that the economy would be able to regain steam.     "Try to develop new types of candles to cater to different cultures, which would capture big market share," Wen said during avisit to Qingdao Kingking Group, the world's second-largest candle maker.     During a visit to Haier, the country's largest appliance maker, the premier praised its sales promotion and services in rural areas as a factor stimulating rural consumption, which he said would help ease the impact of the global financial crisis. He reassured villagers that apart from the expanded subsidies, the government also encouraged enterprises to purchase old appliances and allow farmers to trade in older models for new ones as a move to sustain domestic demand.     The premier reiterated "confidence" wherever he went, saying a solid material foundation, stable financial system, abundant cash flow, large domestic markets, appropriate macroeconomic policies and others steps boosted confidence.     Wen said the State Council, or Cabinet, is drawing up two major plans.     One involves 10 programs to expand demand, further detailing and specifying the 10 stimulus measures kicked out last year.     The other includes the readjustment and improvement of 10 pillar industries. Plans for the development of steel industry and automobile industry have been rolled out and others are under way.
