SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Less than a day after announcing that two students have contracted coronavirus, San Diego State University officials confirmed Thursday that two more students tested positive for the disease.Thursday's announcement raises the number of coronavirus cases on SDSU's campus to four since kicking off the fall semester this week.Officials said the two new cases are unrelated to the previous cases, and that the two students had only been to the campus to see testing at the Student Health Services. The two unidentified students are "recovering well and are away from campus," according to officials.RELATED: SDSU begins 2020-21 school year with mostly virtual classes"The two students did not interact with any SDSU employees or spaces, outside of the Student Health Services Outdoor COVID-19 Test Collection Booth, and were not in any other spaces utilized by the campus community," said Libby Skiles, Ed.D., SDSU Student Health Services Director. On Wednesday, the university confirmed two students had tested positive and that both students live off-campus. The students were also tested by the college's Student Health Services.Wednesday's cases are not believed to be connected to any reported off-campus gatherings, the school statement said. The school said the risk to others on campus is low and SHS is in the process of performing contact tracing.San Diego State: Two students test positive for COVID-19; Risk to campus 'low'Campus officials previously reported it has had 27 confirmed COVID-19 cases within the broader campus community among faculty, staff, students, and visitors to campus, including the SDSU Imperial Valley campus.SDSU started its 2020-21 school year this week with nearly all virtual classes, however, the campus isn't completely closed to students. There are about 2,600 students living on campus this semester, and hundreds more who have to visit the campus for certain matters. Normally, SDSU would have about 7,500 students living on campus. In a warning to the student body and staff, Skiles urged the SDSU community to continue using prevention techniques, "including wearing facial coverings and following U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Protection guidance to protect yourself and those around you.""Washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and frequently, is one of the most important ways to help prevent the spread of COVID-19," said Skiles. 2417

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — It's called "cuffing season" and San Diego is the place to be for participating singles.According to Match, cuffing season is defined as "when daters find someone to settle down within the colder months … and may or may not be a relationship that lasts until the spring."Essentially handcuffing yourself to someone for the winter, before parting ways in the spring.RELATED: The San Diego single scene doesn't offer much, study saysUsing data from its Singles in America study, which Match calls the nation's largest study of singles' dating habits, the site based its rankings on more than 5,000 singles of all ages in the U.S. That study says nationwide, 70 percent of Gen Z and 63 percent of Millennials are searching for love, with about 14 percent of singles saying pressure from family or friends is the key reason they seek out a long-term relationship. The survey adds that only 9 percent of singles are looking to date casually. With that in mind, San Diego ranked as the second best city for cuffing, behind only Indianapolis. Although cuffing season occurs in the winter months, many of the best cities are located in more temperate climates:1. Indianapolis, Ind.2. San Diego, Calif.3. Denver, Colo.4. Chicago, Ill.5. Memphis, Tenn.6. Charlotte, N.C.7. San Antonio, Texas8. Columbus, Ohio9. Houston, Texas10. Los Angeles, Calif.RELATED: Dinner with a view: 9 San Diego restaurants named most scenic in AmericaBut for those looking for a temporary date to help make the end of the year less lonely, many other big cities are actually the worst place to be, according to Match:1. El Paso, Texas2. Washington, D.C.3. Detroit, Mich.4. Philadelphia, Penn.5. Fort Worth, Texas6. New York, N.Y.7. Baltimore, Md.8. Boston, Mass.9. Dallas, Texas10. Seattle, Wash. When it comes to San Diego's dating scene, the climate itself can also be called temperate.According to a previous study by Apartment List, San Diego ranked 73 overall for best cities for singles. In that analysis, only about 22 percent of respondents were satisfied with the dating scene in San Diego. Between women and men, about 17 percent of women and 35 percent of men were satisfied with dating here.Another recent study also offered clues as to San Diego's iffy state for singles. That survey, also compiled by Match, found that the average price of a date in California ran singles about 6, one of the highest in the country. Those figures were based on a dinner for two, two movie tickets, and bottle of wine. 2511

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — It’s decision time for the San Diego Padres, who are trying to choose the right candidate to replace fired manager Andy Green.Widespread reports, confirmed by 10News, indicate the Padres have narrowed their search to two very different candidates. The first is 38-year-old Jayce Tingler, who has worked in a variety of coaching and front office roles with the Texas Rangers, but has no Major League managerial experience.RELATED: Padres' Yates wins Baseball Digest's top reliever awardThe second is 67-year-old Ron Washington, who managed the Texas Rangers to back-to-back World Series appearances in 2010 and 2011, before stepping down in 2014. He's currently the 3rd base coach for the Atlanta Braves. The Padres have previously stated a preference for an experienced manager, which could give Washington the edge. But the decision largely rests on the shoulders of general manager A.J. Preller, who is said to be high on Tingler’s ability to communicate with players in English and Spanish along with his understanding of baseball analytics. The timing of the decision remains unknown but both candidates were in San Diego this past week for second interviews with club officials.RELATED: Padres to unveil new 2020 uniforms in NovemberThe team fire Green days before the conclusion of the regular season. Green manned a 274-366 record during his four seasons with the team.Following Green's dismissal, Preller said "the biggest thing I know is we’re better than what we’ve shown," during a media conference. He added that he felt the team needed a "different voice, different direction" moving into the 2020 season."It's a big decision. You don't want to be sitting here in this spot again," Preller told media on hiring a new manager. "It'll be a good process. It'll be detailed." 1808

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — It's the first official day of Comic-Con 2020! This year though, there are no superheroes or villains in the Gaslamp District, as the convention is entirely online. But many say they are perks of the Convention going virtual. Instead of going to Comic-Con, this year, Comic-Con comes to you.First thing's first. Print out your badge, just to make it feel official. This year, the Convention even created a new pet attendee option!Next, log onto the free online panels. Thursday's line-up included video presentations by anime superhouse, Crunchyroll, zoom-style discussions with artists and producers, as well as a read-through and Q&A sessions with the star-studded cast of the Star Trek Universe. The event was a true Hall H experience, minus the Hall H.RELATED: San Diego's hospitality industry suffers from Comic-Con@Home"As somebody who has parents that were in the Holocaust, you have to make the best of a situation. And that's what we did," panelist, Sandra Scheller, said.Since 2018, the South Bay resident has hosted "The Art and the Holocaust" panel, where she shares stories and art of her late mother, Ruth Sax. Though there was no audience interaction this year, she says going virtual does have its perks.Because the panels are uploaded on YouTube, there is no need to choose which panels to attend. There is no missing out if there are many going on at the same time."You can still go on and see it at any time," Scheller said. "If someone wants to go on the panel at two o'clock in the morning, six months from now, you're able to do that. And to use it as an educational tool in the schools. I love that!"WHAT TO KNOW: Panels, exclusives, activities for San Diego Comic-Con@HomePerhaps the biggest downside to Comic-Con going virtual may be felt by the cosplayers. They are unable to show off their creations. But there are some things that can ONLY be done virtually, like giving cosplay costumes the Hollywood treatment."They [Cosplayers] can still get their work and effort and their creativity seen online, just by making a video," Chris Kelly, CEO of Productioncrate LLC, said. "I think the best way to bring it to the next level is to add superpowers if you're a superhero."Productioncrate LLC is a visual effects company out of Kearny Mesa. Through their free or premium subscription service, users can instantly make their videos "more awesome," as Kelly said. During this quarantine, he says 800,000 users are doing just that.PHOTOS: Best cosplay from San Diego Comic-Con"Because you're at home, why not take advantage of it?" Kelly asked. "Learn a new skill-set, learn how to edit video, and have the coolest video anyone's ever seen!"We asked Kelly if he can give a five-second clip of his interview with ABC 10News, the 'superhero feel.' Within minutes, he was able to add special effects, including lightning, fire, and music onto the clip.Comic-Con encourages attendees to check out the virtual booths. Take a moment to shop online for exclusive merchandise to keep small vendors in business. 3055
