NEW YORK – Director Joel Schumacher has died at the age of 80.Schumacher passed away in New York City after a year-long cancer battle, Variety and TMZ have confirmed through the filmmaker’s representation.The native of New York was perhaps best known for directing films in the 1980s and 90s, like “St. Elmo’s Fire,” “The Lost Boys,” “A Time to Kill” and multiple “Batman” films when Tim Burton left Warner Bros.Schumacher's films featuring the caped crusader were "Batman Forever" and "Batman & Robin." And although the movies received largely negative reviews at the time of their release, they've developed into cult classics for many. NEW YORK CITY — Two U.S. marshals and a New York City police officer were injured in a shootout in the Bronx early Friday that left one suspect dead and another injured, law enforcement sources say.The New York City Fire Department (FDNY) said a report came in at around 5:30 a.m. ET about a shooting on Ely Avenue, near Edenwald Avenue in the Wakefield neighborhood of the Bronx.Aerial footage shows a large police presence in the area, including three ambulances.One marshal was shot in the arm and thigh and the second was shot in the leg, according to police. The NYPD detective injured his leg during the incident.The three law enforcement officials were transported to local hospitals for treatment, along with a suspect who sustained injuries to his head. It's not known if the suspect was suffering from gunshot wounds.Previous reporting indicated that the three law enforcement officers injured were all U.S. marshals.According to WHDH-TV in Boston, the suspect who was killed in the shootout is Andre K. Sterling, 35. He was wanted in connection with the shooting of a Massachusetts state trooper on Nov. 20. The state trooper survived that shooting, but Sterling escaped the scene. 1200
NFL and NFL Players Association data for the week of Oct. 25-31 show eight new confirmed positive COVID-19 tests among players, and 17 new confirmed positives among other personnel.A total of 42,916 tests were administered to 7,884 players and team personnel. There were 16,814 tests administered to 2,511 players; 26,102 tests were administered to 5,373 personnel.During this period, players and Tier 1 and 2 personnel were tested daily. Tier 3 individuals were tested weekly. Individuals who test positive are immediately isolated, not permitted access to club facilities, or have direct contact with players or personnel. Club medical staffs are in regular communication with individuals who test positive to monitor symptoms.Total test results for the entire period of Aug 1-Oct 31 show 63 players and 99 other personnel were confirmed with positive cases. NEW YORK (KGTV) -- An explosion in Queens, New York turned the sky an eerie shade of blue Thursday night. Video posted on social media shows the sky glowing a light blue color as an explosion could be seen off in the distance. WABC reported that the incident was caused by a transformer explosion at a power plant. Utility company Con Edison spokesman Bob McGee told the Associated Press what happened was an "arc flash" — somewhat like a bolt of lightning — after a malfunction in equipment that carries 138,000 volts of electricity 20 feet (6 meters) up in the air. He said the flash subsided on its own.The incident sparked a power outage at LaGuardia Airport, forcing the FAA to issue a ground stop. New York City, along with other parts of the Northeastern United States, were getting pounded on Wednesday by a noisy winter storm, which could leave more than a foot of snow accumulation.The winter storm was so intense on Wednesday, that many in New York City heard thundersnow, which only happens in the most intense of winter storms.
