SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Google announced Wednesday it has achieved a breakthrough in quantum computing, saying it has developed an experimental processor that took just minutes to complete a calculation that would take the world's best supercomputer thousands of years.The feat could open the door someday to machines so blazingly fast that they could revolutionize such tasks as finding new medicines, developing vastly smarter artificial intelligence systems and, most ominously, cracking the encryption that protects some of the world's most closely guarded secrets.Such practical uses are still probably decades away, scientists said. It has little practical value, other than to test how well the processor works."The more interesting milestone will be a useful application," said Chris Monroe, a University of Maryland physicist who is also the founder of quantum startup IonQ.Google's findings, however, faced pushback from other industry researchers. She tested positive for coronavirus July 20, 2020 and since then, has gone from the best shape to the worst, showing that the virus can impact anyone, even someone young and healthy like herself.She said the first couple weeks of her sickness were mild, then in the third week, her symptoms got worse. She lost feeling in her right side, couldn’t walk and spent six days in the hospital. Now, three months after testing positive, and she still has not recovered.“You can’t even get out of bed. There are times when I am crawling to the bathroom to try to take a shower,” she said.The mom of three said she doesn’t have the strength to pick her four-year-old up now, and also has not been able to return to work. She doesn’t know when she’ll have the strength to keep up with the physically demanding job of an ICU nurse.“Even I, at the beginning of this, was thinking even if I caught COVID, I’ll be fine. Here I am months later and I am not fine. We don’t know what the future holds for me. If this is permanent, if I’ll be able to go back to work as a nurse. The future is really uncertain,” she said.Cisneros said her husband has been a stay at home dad for almost five years and is now looking for a job to compensate for the loss of her work. Frustrated neighbors say they're leaving trash, dirt, and causing trouble."They frequent this little corner right here," said Bernie Polanco, who lives in the neighborhood.It's likely one of the first things you'll notice at the corner of 40th and Madison Avenue.  Trash, tarps, and blankets--all signs of homeless camps in the area."I really feel like it's hurting our community, hurting our little neighborhood," Polanco said.A neighborhood just down the street from the dog park at Ward Canyon Park.  There are mounting frustrations about more homeless popping up at this dead end street and bringing crime."They were trying to find unlocked cars," Polanco said.  The problem seems to be getting worse."One possible reason, neighbors say, is construction equipment from a city contractor and vehicles parked in the street that the homeless convert into living spaces."They would attach tenting and tarp(s) to the semi-trucks or the equipment, the tractors to make temporary shelters at night and before the workers would get here in the morning, they would tear them off," Polanco explained.The combination of so many young families and people walking their dogs add more concerns for neighbors."My radar is a little more attuned," said Jeremy Dawsey-Richardson, who lives in a white house on the corner.His house may be closest to the problem, but his attitude is far different.
