SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Tens of thousands of businesses in San Diego lost momentum in the early days of the pandemic. A leadership and facilitation company, literally named "momentum," was training corporations around the world when the pandemic hit. And it was clear to financially survive they had to pivot.Jason and Deirdre Maloney created the MagicWrap because they felt the world could use some warmth right now.“There's certainly people who are feeling isolated, feeling alone. Everybody likes a hug," Deirdre Maloney says. And a hug is just what a friend needed. But, when they couldn't find the gift they were looking for, they created it and brought MagicWrap to the market.“There's a concept about a blanket that's about covering yourself, and that's not what we wanted. We wanted that warmth like someone had their arms around you," Jason Maloney said. It even comes with a personalized note, and a pocket to keep it in. The pocket also makes a cell phone easy to walk around with. But before MagicWrap and product manufacturing, the Maloney's were a success in the field of corporate training and facilitation. Their company, Momentum, was booked solid into the fall.“For a company that goes around talking to businesses and they no longer exist. We have no business," said Jason. And their record-breaking year for Momentum, vanished.“It was a shock. Pretty much in a week our entire calendar year was put on hold, or canceled,” Jason added. But instead of folding, they found a new purpose, and the chance to spread a little magic in a trying time.“So when we hear back that people feel loved and supported or it's great to have this gift to give, that's really what it's about for us,” says Deirdre. 1714

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The majority of residents at Reo Vista Healthcare Center in Paradise Hills have COVID-19, according to officials with the facility.A total of 112 residents have tested positive, according to the facility’s administrator Curtis White. 40 staff members also tested positive for COVID-19. White confirmed 14 residents have passed away. Of that number, five died in local hospitals. The facility holds 135 residents.Juanita Gomez was one of the residents who tested positive. Her son told Team 10 she passed away July 1st.The state strike team assisted in expediting testing for residents and staff, White said. They have visited the facility three times.Cesar Noriega’s 90-year-old mother also tested positive. She is currently in the hospital dealing with COVID-19 and other health related issues. “She’s not doing well. She’s in a lot of pain,” Noriega said. Noriega said he urged early testing at the facility, but his pleas for help went ignored. He is now trying to figure out where his mother can get care after she is released from the hospital.“I’ve gone through elation, through depression, to anger… this is almost on a daily basis,” Noriega said.White said “most of the individuals with COVID are experiencing mild or no symptoms.” 13 residents and 23 staff members have recovered.“Our top priority remains the health and well-being of everyone in our facility,” White said. 1409

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The La Boheme complex in the heart of North Park offers plenty of amenities. It even has a salon and Pilates studio at street level. "Pretty sure the rent's pretty up there," said Arthur Reynoso, walking by the building on Thursday. What most people don't know, however, is that 45 of the 224 condos in the building are affordable - to own. It's rare for one to come on the market, but a handful do each year. In fact, one is about to sell for 5,341, which is about 40 percent off the median condo price of 6,000 in North Park. RELATED: Making It In San Diego: How housing got so expensive"They get snapped up very quickly," said Sujata Raman, director of housing finance at the San Diego Housing Commission. The commission oversees about 250 for-sale affordable homes in San Diego - located in Carmel Valley, Black Mountain Ranch and North Park. Only four are for sale now, and Raman said all have been matched with buyers. However, they can list anytime. RELATED: Making it in San Diego: Key saving steps helped renter buy her first home"When a homeowner decides to sell we assist them by finding buyers because they ultimately have to be income approved and qualified by the housing commission," Raman said. A homeowner can sell the property to anyone he or she wishes - so long as they are qualified - but the commission still maintains an interest list and is accepting applicants. Currently, there are about 275 households qualified for that list. The homes are not listed on the MLS. Still, there are restrictions when owning one of these units. Owners must live in them, and cannot rent out any part to supplement income. The commission checks that annually. Qualified buyers usually have 60 to 110 percent of area median income. RELATED: Making It in San Diego: Best and worst places in San Diego County for home resaleBuyers must come up with a 3 percent down payment to qualify. The homes are deed-restricted for generally 45-50 years, meaning they have to be sold at an affordable price for that time span. However, once that time expires, that home becomes market rate and can be sold for any price. It doesn't reset once a property changes hands. 2194
