LANZHOU, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Floods caused by torrential rains and tropical cyclones have left at least 3,222 people killed and 1,003 others missing across China in the first eleven months of this year, government statistics released Tuesday show."In 2010, China experienced the worst flooding casualties and damage since 1998," Water Resources Minister Chen Lei said during a national drought and flooding relief workshop held in the northwest city of Lanzhou.Further, the average accumulated rainfall across China this year has increased nearly 10 percent over levels recorded in previous years. In some areas, the figure shot up five times over that recorded in a usual year.Nearly 270 towns and cities were flooded, 437 rivers swelled with water and 111 of them broke past records, and thousands of dams faced dangers, Chen said.Floods also destroyed 2.27 million houses and damaged 17.87 million hectares of farmland, statistics show. The economic loss caused by this year's flooding has reached 374.5 billion yuan (56.74 million U.S. dollars), said officials.

It is the responsibility of governments and armed forces in the region to enhance international cooperation, jointly cope with challenges, safeguard regional peace and stability to create favorable security conditions for common development, Ma said.The Chinese military is willing to boost in-depth, wide-ranging and all-dimensional ties with Thailand, building upon past achievements, Ma said.General Kittipong Keskowit, permanent secretary for defence of Thailand, hailed the long-lasting friendly cooperation between Thailand and China.He also expressed Thailand's willingness to continue carrying out close military exchanges and cooperation with China so as to contribute to the eternal friendship between the two countries and to the peace and stability of the region.During the event, Ma, on behalf of the Chinese military, donated 20 transport speedboats to Thailand to support its fight against the current floods.Ma arrived in Thailand on Saturday for a three-day visit at the invitation of the Thai Defence Ministry.

YAOUNDE, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu has agreed with Cameroon's President Paul Biya during a meeting here on Thursday that the two countries should expand cooperation and further promote bilateral relations.During their meeting, Hui said since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Cameroon 40 years ago, the two countries have treated each other equally, friendly and with mutual trust. Both countries showed firm support regarding each other's core interests.In recent years, China and Cameroon have accelerated cooperation in such realms as trade and commerce, cultural and educational exchanges, bringing real benefits for the two peoples and providing new impetus for the development of bilateral relations, Hui said.The vice premier noted that the China-Cameroon friendly cooperation are embracing new opportunities and the potential will be huge for the two countries in expanding friendly cooperation.He said China is willing to join hands with Cameroon in increasing friendly exchanges, improving political mutual trust, expanding bilateral cooperation and promoting the friendly and cooperative ties to a new height.For his part, President Biya said in the past 40 years, Cameroon and China have carried out a series of cooperation in areas like agriculture and infrastructure construction on the basis of mutual benefit, and such cooperation has made great achievements.As Cameroon is making her new development strategies, the president expressed hope that China can further step up cooperation with and support for Cameroon, and become a strategic partner with Cameroon.The two sides also exchanged views on China-Africa cooperation. SEOUL, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao held bilateral talks on Thursday with the presidents of South Korea, the United States and Russia, respectively, to discuss bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues including global economic recovery.The meetings took place after Hu arrived in Seoul earlier in the day for the summit of Group of 20 (G20) major economies in Seoul.RELATIONS WITH SOUTH KOREAWelcoming President Hu, South Korean President Lee Myung-bak said he believed China would play an important role in promoting international economic cooperation within the G-20 framework.The two presidents reached a consensus on further strengthening the bilateral relations and on how to successfully hold the G-20 summit.The healthy and stable development of China's economy is very important to the development of Asia and also to the recovery of the world's economy, Lee said.The South Korean president also voiced hopes for the two countries to strengthen their exchange activities with an aim to increase mutual trust and further develop their bilateral strategic partnership.Hu said the Seoul G-20 summit is the first to be held in an Asian country and also in an emerging market economy.Hu stressed that China and South Korea are important neighbors and partners and that China is willing to work with South Korea to advance the bilateral strategic partnership into a comprehensive one.Hu said China has always supported the improvement of relations between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and South Korea."China is willing to play a constructive role in this regard," he said.Lee expressed his appreciation for China's efforts in maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Penisula.
