SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A cold winter storm is set to bring rain and snow to San Diego County starting Monday, according to the National Weather Service.The agency says the San Diego County mountains could see as much as six inches of snow, sparking a winter storm watch from 8 a.m. Monday through 4 a.m. Tuesday.The heaviest snow is expected to fall above 5,500 feet with lighter amounts down to 4,500 feet.RELATED: Check today's forecast in your areaMeanwhile, other parts of the county could see much-needed rain totaling as much as one inch. Thunderstorms are also possible, the agency said.A beach hazards statement was issued Saturday ahead of the storm. Waves and surf of four to seven feet are expected with sets as high as eight feet. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego State University football team announced Friday it has added a game against the Brigham Young University Cougars in December to complete its shortened schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic.The team initially received its schedule from the Mountain West Conference Thursday with a "TBA" game on Dec. 12. That game will now be played against BYU in Provo, Utah.It will be the second straight season that SDSU ends its regular season with the Cougars. Last year on Nov. 30, San Diego State defeated BYU, 13- 3, in what ended up being the Aztecs' final football game at SDCCU Stadium to snap a six-game losing streak in the series and improve to 8-21-1 all-time against Brigham Young.The BYU game will be the sole non-conference game for the Aztecs, excepting any possible post-season play.San Diego State opens its season at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, against UNLV on Oct. 24. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A deceased whale was found by lifeguards floating off the coast of San Diego Thursday.San Diego Fire Rescue Lifeguards at Black's Beach spotted the dead whale floating about two to three miles off Sumner Canyon.Lifeguards responded to the gray whale, found to be about 30 feet in length and show obvious sounds of bloating and decomposition, according to SDFD spokesperson Monica Mu?oz.RELATED: Humpback whale feeding frenzy off San Diego's coastSDFD lifeguards are working with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to secure samples of the whale carcass and figure out what disposal options are available.It wasn't immediately clear what led to the whale's death. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two researchers, including one from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego, are in Antarctica in an effort to uncover the planet's oldest ice.The research trip is part of a cordial international race to find the ice, which will give geologists and climate scientists new insight into Earth's climate history. Scripps paleoclimatologist Jeff Severinghaus and University of Minnesota-Deluth geologist John Goodge arrived this month at an ice-drilling outpost at McMurdo Station, Antarctica.In October, Severinghaus and researchers at Princeton University published a study in the journal Nature analyzing a two-million-year-old ice core. However, that core was incomplete in its historical portrait of ancient air. They believe their 50-ton drill could secure a 50-meter ice core with a full timeline of the continent's geologic development. Eventually, it could be used to dig to the continent's bedrock, which dates back 3 billion years.In addition to each other, geologists and climate scientists in the southern hemisphere are in a race against nature, as climate change continues to melt Antarctic ice and cause sea levels to rise, particularly on the continent's western edge, according to Goodge."The bigger question is what's happening in East Antarctica because there's a lot more sea level rise potential if it begins to melt as well," he said. "So we really need to understand what those conditions are."Once collected, the researchers will pack the ice samples in boxes until January, when the Antarctic sea ice thaws and the samples can be shipped to Port Hueneme in Ventura County. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) --  It was a normal Thursday night for Rob Perelman. His Uber app was on and he was picking up passengers in San Diego. Then suddenly, things changed and his passengers got violent. You may have seen the video by now - a car crashing in Banker's Hill after the passengers began violently beating the driver.RELATED: Uber driver attacked by drunk passengersFriday, Perelman spoke for the first time about his early-morning attack. He told 10News what happened Friday morning isn't an Uber problem - they were just bad apples. "I've done 4,999 rides with good people," Perelman said. "And one with a bad person."Perelman gave that bad ride sometime after 1:00 a.m. Friday. He picked up the passengers in Banker's Hill and almost immediately realized they were drunk. "My gut feeling said to drive away," he said. "But I'm here to give people rides home, and I said you know what, 'we've all been the drunk guy just trying to get home from the bar, let me give these guys a ride home.'"MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhoodHe only made it two blocks. "The guy in the back seat starts puking out the window...and if he can't make it two blocks, he's definitely not going to make it 10 minutes," Perelman said. So he pulled over and asked the two to get out of his car. He told 10News that he even tried opening the door for one of them."Still nothing happening, so I say a third time, 'get out of the vehicle or I'm calling 911,'" Perelman said. That's when things got dangerous, and the passenger next to him attacked with a fury of punches."And he's not stopping, he's just beyond the point now," Perelman said. "Probably doesn't know what he's doing, just starts throwing punches at my head, I can't get him to stop. I've got my glasses on, he knocks my glasses off."Perelman says he was left with two options. Take the beating or jump out of the car. He took option two, jumping out of the car while it was still in drive and running to a nearby house to call the police.After the car crashed, the passengers seemed to have a moment of clarity and took off. Perelman says he left behind a shoe, a cell phone and ,000 dollars in damages to his car.Even though he had a bad experience, Perelman says he just wants to get back on the road. "I'm just happy that I was able to get out safely and I've got a few bruises on my head, but I was able to walk away, so I'm lucky that it didn't escalate," Perelman said.
