LEMON GROVE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A car being pursued by sheriff’s deputies crashed into the backyard swimming pool at a Lemon Grove home early Wednesday morning.San Diego County sheriff’s deputies were called to Mt. Vernon Street in response to a report of vehicles racing each other on the street.When deputies arrived, the cars fled, prompting deputies to pursue them.The pursuit was called off after deputies lost track of the vehicles. However, minutes later, a homeowner contacted authorities to report a car had landed in her swimming pool.The home is located directly below Mt. Vernon Street, and it is believed the car had gone over the side and tumbled into the pool.10News learned a man and woman escaped from the submerged car and fled the scene.No injuries were reported. 788

LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - Scientists at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography say atmospheric rivers will be the main source of California's rainfall over the next 80 years.The study, released Tuesday morning, says that could lead to more flooding, more drought and longer wildfire seasons."This region is becoming more sub-tropical and the dry season is expanding," says Alexander Gershunov, a research meteorologist at Scripps. "That is the case with all of the Mediterranean climate regions around the world."Right now, the study says California gets 40-50% of its annual rainfall from atmospheric rivers. Those are long, drawn out rain events that last for days. "The mountains squeeze the rain out of them.""In California, most of the floods, historically, are associated with atmospheric rivers," says Gershunov. LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A one-two punch of red tide and algae-filled lake water releases have had a devastating effect on sea life in Southwest Florida.The latest numbers from Lee County officials on Thursday reveal that well over 3 million pounds of fish have been removed from local coastlines.The county reports that contractors removing fish from Lee County beaches have amassed more than 1,400 tons of fish, and that crews in Sanibel have collected an additional 309 tons.Among the dead fish found include one dead Whale Shark on Sanibel, and numerous large goliath grouper and tarpon.Lee County has just received two new Sand Rake machines, purchased for ,000 each,  that are being immediately placed into service.Areas cleaned so far by Lee County and its contractor include 798
