As a high school student, the gunman in the Dayton, Ohio, massacre had a "hit list" of classmates he wanted to kill or hurt, according to four former students who said they were told by school officials they were on the list.Spencer Brickler said a counselor at Bellbrook High School told him that he and his sister were on Connor Betts' hit list. Brickler said he was riding on a school bus when he saw Betts getting escorted off by officers who were investigating the threats."He was kind of dark and depressive in high school," said Brickler, who recalled the incident occurring about nine years ago when he was a freshman. He said he had no idea what prompted Betts, then a sophomore, to put him or his sister on the list.The information has taken on new significance now that Betts has been identified as the gunman who killed nine people early Sunday morning in a popular nightlife district in downtown Dayton, authorities said. Police officers on patrol nearby immediately responded and killed Betts less than a minute after he opened fire, authorities said.In response to CNN's inquiries about the hit list, Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Schools Superintendent Douglas A. Last summer, Robin and Walt Huston decided they wanted to share their lake house home with a child in need.“We just decided to add to our family,” said Robin Huston. “We think we have enough to give to another child.”The Hustons are pre-approved to adopt and have been working with an international agency that specializes in placing children with hearing loss or deafness.Walt Huston’s parents and grandparents were deaf. “My first language was sign language,” said Walt. “And then I met Robin. She knew sign and then we both decided we wanted a deaf child.”The child they selected is 13-year-old Zhou Ji. Born hearing impaired, he’s waited his entire life for someone to choose him. “[They] showed us some pictures of him and our hearts just melted,” said Walt. “And we wanted him from that point on.”But the eruption of the coronavirus has brought dozens of adoptions like theirs to a crushing halt. Zhou Ji is living in an orphanage under lockdown in Hubei province, the epicenter of the Wuhan virus outbreak. “Yes. Be warned: This holiday season will be the busiest on highways in U.S. history, AAA says. This is in addition to 2019 being the busiest holiday travel period at the nation's airports in 16 years.A record 115.6 million Americans are expected to travel from Saturday, Dec. 21 through Wednesday, Jan. 1. The figure is expected to be the largest since AAA began tracking holiday travel.
