BEIJING, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao stressed on Sunday that the final ends of the nation's economic growth is to improve people's well-being, which is always a priority on the government's agenda amid the global financial crisis. Despite the tight fiscal condition, China beefed up the income and welfare enjoyed by the retirees and low-income residents, and unveiled the significant health-care reform in 2008, Wen told Xinhua in an exclusive interview.     "We will overcome every difficulty to well implement the health-care reform which has close bearing on people's health," he said. Reforms are also made to make medicine more affordable for patients.     He also stressed the significance of the pilot program of rural pension insurance.     "Farmers aged over 60 could get 55 yuan a month. It is not a big sum, but it begins a new era," he said.     Since the global economic crisis broke out at the end of last year, the Chinese government has timely implemented a stimulus package which stepped up financial support and policy incentives to improve people's well-being and stimulate domestic demand, in order to shore up economic recovery.     China has spent 728.46 billion yuan (107.13 billion U.S. dollars) to enhance education and medical systems, social security, job promotion, affordable housing construction, and cultural development. The investment was an increase of 165.33 billion yuan from a year ago.

ABU DHABI, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- More than 40 world leading renewable energy companies from China have confirmed their participation in the upcoming World Future Energy Summit (WFES) in Abu Dhabi, organizers said Sunday.     The Chinese pavilion at the meeting, which is now in its third year and will be held in the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Jan. 18-21, has already grown to more than 1,000 square meters, ASDA'A Burson-Marsteller, a public relations consultancy, said in a press release.     Leading companies and organizations from all across China, including Suntech Power, Yingli Green Energy Holding and China Sunergy, are expected to participate in the summit, the press release said.     It noted that there is a particularly strong presence of companies from China's eastern province of Jiangsu, where solar power is a pillar of the local economy, saying approximately half of the Chinese firms participating are from the province.     According to the press release, Shi Zhengrong, Suntech's chairman and CEO, will take part in a discussion on International Policy and Climate Change Action Plans during the summit.     Suntech, a NYSE-listed company with a market capitalization of nearly 3 billion U.S. dollars, is the world's largest producer of crystalline silicon solar panels and has delivered solar energy products to more than 80 countries over the past eight years, it said.     The China Greentech Report, recently issued by the China Greentech Initiative, a partnership of more than 80 of the world's leading companies and organizations, projects that the Chinese government's investment in its "greentech" industry will drive private sector investment, which could create a national market worth up to 1 trillion dollars annually.     Such significant investment and government commitment have led to China playing a significant role in the exhibition at the WFES this year, the press release said.     The WFES, a global platform for sustainable future energy solutions launched in 2008, gathers industrial leaders, investors, scientists, specialists, policymakers and researchers to discuss challenges of rising energy demand and actions to achieve a cleaner and more sustainable future for the world.     Abu Dhabi, an emerging global hub for renewable energy, is the venue for the annual meeting, held along with the World Future Energy and Environment exhibitions.     In June last year, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) decided to base its headquarters in the UAE capital. 

GUANGZHOU, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping attended the opening ceremony of the 2009 UCLG World Council Meeting & Guangzhou International Sister Cities Conference, which gathered more than 1,000 representatives from about 210 cities and local organizations of more than 60 nations.     Founded in May 2004, the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) is the largest local government organization in the world. The mayor of Guangzhou is the current co-president of UCLG. Xi said the UCLG has become an important platform for multilateral exchanges and cooperation as well as a bridge of friendship for global cities. He believed that the UCLG would be able to integrate wisdom and strength of urban planning and management from different nations, and play a positive role in promoting peace and development of the world. He said although the world economy had showed some positive changes, the full recovery would still have a long way to go.     China would do its best to stabilize its own economic development, while playing an active role in international cooperation in order to promote the recovery of world economy, he noted.     He reiterated that China would continue to support the developing countries with a responsible attitude and fulfill its commitments of providing foreign assistance so as to push forward the realization of UN Millennium Development Goals.     Beijing Municipal government and the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) jointly held the World Council Meeting of UCLG in June, 2005. KUALA LUMPUR, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak met here on Thursday with Liu Qi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPC.     The two sides exchanged views on the China-Malaysia ties and the relations between the CPC and the United Malays National Organization (UMNO) as well as economic cooperation between the two countries.     Liu said that the relationship between China and Malaysia develops smoothly since the two countries established the diplomatic ties 35 years ago, with increasing mutual trust in politics and remarkable achievements in economic and trade cooperation.
