SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego Gas and Electric has restored power to the 2,900 people affected by public safety power outages Monday. SDG&E shut off power to thousands of North County residents Monday amid Santa Ana winds. Just after 9:30 a.m., the utility said service was turned off for 2,743 customers “to maintain public safety." By noon, that number increased to 2,908."If the current weather forecast holds, SDG&E does not anticipate the need for further Public Safety Power Shutoffs on Tuesday," the company said.Over the weekend, 21,480 residents in San Diego’s North County were warned via phone, text message, and email that a power shutoff was possible on Monday and Tuesday.The shutoffs are approved by state regulators as a safety tool to mitigate fire risk during dangerous weather conditions, SDG&E said.Strong Santa Ana winds and weather conditions prompted the decision to inform customers of potential shutoffs.Updates on SDG&E’s power shutoffs can be found at https://www.sdge.com/power-safety-power-shutoff. 1050

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police officers arrested a man for attacking a four-year-old girl outside an apartment complex on the 4300 block of 50th Street.According to witnesses, the little girl’s father was dropping the girl off at her grandmother’s home around 11:30. Before the grandmother could walk the four-year-old through the security gates of her complex, a stranger attacked the child from behind.A neighbor, who only asked to use his first name, Robert, says he heard someone calling for the help, so he came outside. He says he saw the grandmother had gotten through the gate, but the father and another neighbor were outside of the entrance trying to hold off the attacker. Robert felt compelled to step in.“He came at me, and it seemed like he was going for someone, and that someone was a child,” he said, “so I had no other recourse, I hit him once he went down. He bit my leg. He got up, and he started coming after me.”But the man didn’t stay down, instead continued to attack.“Very very vicious, he had a very crazy look,” Robert said. “He wasn’t saying anything, he was grunting like a feral animal. He was exceptionally strong. He just wouldn’t quit, even when the police got here, he was very very strong.”Robert says he had no idea why he was trying to hurt the little girl but said the man might have been under the influence of something.Police arrested the suspect.Robert recalled seeing red marks around the little girl’s neck but said she was okay though visibly shaken.She is home with her parents. 1541

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Regis Philbin, the long-time talk show host who holds the Guiness Book world record for most hours on television, returned to his roots Wednesday with a visit to 10News."This was the beginning of it all," Philbin said upon beginning his tour. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County health officials have warned at least three local churches about having services indoors. The county sent out three letters to Skyline Church in La Mesa; Lighthouse Baptist Church in Lemon Grove; and Awaken Church's campus on Balboa Avenue in Kearny Mesa.The letters to Skyline and Lighthouse were very similar, saying indoor services create "significant risk of spreading COVID-19," encouraging the churches to move their in-person services outside. The third document is a cease-and-desist letter sent to Awaken Church ordering the church to stop indoor operations. All three letters are dated July 17 and are signed by County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten. The letters state that failure to comply with these orders can mean criminal misdemeanor citations with a fine of ,000 for each violation.
