BEIJING, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan met in Beijing Monday with a delegation from the Geneva Association (GA), an insurance economics group, headed by chairman Nikolaus Von Bomhard.Wang hoped the GA board would hold a successful board meeting in Beijing, praising the positive role the organization played in promoting reform of the international insurance industry.China's insurance industry was undergoing rapid and profound changes and development, said Wang. BEIJING, March 24 (Xinhuanet) -- A new study has found that many overweight women and children often underestimate how heavy they are, according to media reports Wednesday.The study, conducted by researchers from Columbia University Medical Center in New York City, surveyed 111 women with the average age of 39 and 111 children aged between 7 and 13.Among the participants, about 66 percent of the women and 39 percent of the kids were overweight or obese.They were shown images of different body silhouettes representing a range of weights, including underweight, normal weight, overweight, obese and extremely obese.The research findings showed that 82 percent of obese women and 43 percent of overweight women underestimated their weight, while only 13 percent of normal weight women did so.As to the children group, about 86 percent overweight or obese kids low-balled their weight.Lead author Dr. Nicole Dumas said, "The implications of this is the overwhelming impact of obesity on children who are growing up in communities where obesity and overweight is the norm rather than the exception."  She added, "Strategies to overcome the obesity epidemic will need to address this barrier to weight loss."

BEIJING, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- As the traditional Spring Festival season ended two days ago, a new wave of post-holiday travel rush came to China's railway system, the Ministry of Railways (MOR) said Saturday.According to a statement from the MOR, the nation's railways carried 6.49 million passengers on Friday, the first day after the Lantern Festival which ended the festival season.The new wave of passengers mainly included students going back to school for the new semester and migrant workers returning to cities to start work. On Friday alone, 919,000 student passenger trips were made on railways, said the MOR.The ministry expected the travel volume and duration of the new peak to be similar to the previous year, with an average of more than 6 million railway passenger trips a daily.The MOR figures also showed that 166 million trips were made on railways since the Spring Festival travel rush began on Jan. 19, up 6 percent from the same period last year.

BEIJING, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and other Party and state leaders have sent greetings to dozens of retired officials ahead of the Spring Festival, according to the General Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.Former President Jiang Zemin and former Premier Li Peng were on the list of those who received either personal visits from leaders or from representatives, said a statement released by the office on Monday.Hu and the other leaders wished the retired officials good health and long life, said the statement.This year's Spring Festival, or the Chinese New Year, falls on Feb. 3.

SAN FRANCISCO, April 7 (Xinhua) -- A latest research has shown that worldwide camera phone sales, driven by fast growing high- tier camera phone market, will top 1 billion units for the first time in 2011.According to the study by Strategy Analytics, a global independent research and consulting firm, sales of camera phones are projected to grow by 21 percent from 918 million units last year to 1.114 billion units in 2011, which will be the first time that annual volumes of camera phones have exceeded the 1-billion mark."The fastest growing segment of the camera phone market will be the high-tier. We forecast camera phones with sensors of eight megapixels and above to grow a healthy 240 percent worldwide during 2011," Neil Mawston, director at Strategy Analytics, said in a statement on Thursday.He added that smartphone vendors, such as Nokia and HTC, are increasingly loading their flagship models with more megapixels to deliver improved imaging quality for premium operator services.Statistics from Strategy Analytics show that some 4.2 billion camera phones have been sold worldwide since 2000.
