SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A legendary sports radio station is returning to Southern California airwaves with an updated name.The Mighty 1090 abruptly went off the air on April 10, 2019, due to an issue between the station’s parent company and the owners of the Mexico-based radio tower that distributes the station’s signal.But on Monday, Aug. 17, the station once known as the Mighty 1090 will be back on the 1090 AM radio dial as "The Mightier 1090.”Bill Hagen of Mightier 1090 said in a news release, “It’s taken a tireless amount of work from a number of great people to get us to this point. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A homeless man walking through a church parking lot was viciously mauled by two stray pit bulls early Wednesday morning.The victim was discovered by a passerby at around 1 a.m. outside the New Creation Church located at 3115 Altadena Ave. in the Chollas Creek neighborhood, according to San Diego police.The unidentified victim told 10News that he was walking through the parking lot when he was suddenly attacked by two pit bulls.He says the pit bulls repeatedly bit him in the face, head, and entire body until the dog owner pulled them off. The owner of the dogs did not stay with the victim or check on his status, the victim told 10News.The dogs whereabouts are unknown.Police found a dog harness at the scene and have turned the investigation over to county animal control.The victim was transported to an area hospital with multiple lacerations. His condition is unknown at this time.Police are searching the neighborhood for the owner of the two pit bulls. No description of the dogs or the owner have been issued at this time. 1066

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A sailor from Naval Base Point Loma tested presumptive positive for coronavirus Sunday night. According to officials with the base, the individual is currently in quarantine in accordance with the CDC guidelines at his home. "Personnel that the individual had close contact with have been notified and are in self-isolation at their residence," officials say. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A Navy sailor appeared in court Tuesday after authorities say he stole 20 hand grenades from a San Diego-based guided missile destroyer.Authorities say Gunner’s Mate Second Class Aaron Booker was taken into custody in Illinois.According to court documents, personnel assigned to the USS Pinckney discovered that 20 grenades disappeared from their storage crates in 2017.In April 2017, an off-duty law enforcement officer noticed a black backpack leaning against a guardrail on the side of the road along Interstate 15 in northwest Arizona.The bag was standard military issue with “GM2 BOOKER” handwritten on a tag inside the bag. The bag contained 18 of the grenades that were missing from the USS Pinckney.According to authorities, law enforcement is still searching for the two missing grenades.The complaint states that Booker acknowledged to investigators that he drove the same route before reporting to his duty station in March.“A backpack full of grenades on the side of the road is obviously extremely dangerous and could have had resulted in injuries or death,” said U.S. Attorney Adam L. Braverman said. “The theft of explosives is a very serious offense, particularly if it is carried out by an insider with access to military weapons and secrets.”Booker will appear for a detention hearing before being transferred to San Diego. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty to selling fentanyl to a 26-year-old La Mesa woman who overdosed in 2018, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.Uriah Odish, 28, was charged with Conspiracy to Distribute Fentanyl and faces 14 and a half years in prison with five years of parole.According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, "Odish sold more than 500 grams of what he knew to be fentanyl between 2017 and the day of the fatal overdose."Tiffany Hansen died from that fatal dose. Her mother Keri Cuppage said Odish apologized Wednesday, "he asked for forgiveness and said he was very very sorry that his decisions led to Tiffany's death."She replied, "my biggest hope is that the time served in jail will help him and he will be able to beat his addiction."She said Tiffany loved the beach and all things Disney. After she passed, Cuppage had her ashes formed into a sea turtle and placed at the Neptune Memorial Reef. The reef is an underwater memorial created to look like the Lost City of Atlantis, off the coast of Miami Florida.Cuppage said every day after Tiffany's death is a struggle. "Every time I get a joyful emotion, it's just a backwash of sad. Not a day has gone by that I haven't cried, that I don't miss her desperately."She urges everyone to stay away from fentanyl, saying death or sentencing your loved ones to a lifetime of sadness isn't worth the high. She said she wishes she could give out her phone number so she could be there for anyone debating using the drug so she could discourage them from making a mistake.The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration documented a surge in fentanyl-related deaths this year in San Diego County.In 2019, the DEA said 152 people died from fentanyl-related overdoses.
