IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) — The body of a man was discovered floating in the water just north of the U.S.-Mexico border near Border Field State Park Friday.San Diego Sheriff's deputies were called in to assist Border Patrol officers just before 5:30 p.m. after the discovery. Border Patrol agents pulled the man to shore where San Diego Fire Department crews responded to provide life-saving measures.The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released.The San Diego County Medical Examiner is working to identify the man before notifying his next of kin. 592

In a bizarre twist following the Parkland, Florida school shooting that killed 17 people, the confessed shooter Nikolas Cruz has been receiving "fan letters" from across the nation. The Sun Sentinel reported that Cruz not only has been receiving letters from admirers, he has also received money for his commissary account, which allows inmates to purchase snacks and accessories. So far, Cruz has been given 0. The letters, many of which are coming from teenage girls, are not being shown to Cruz as he is on suicide watch at the jail.Broward County Public Defender Howard Finkelstein told the Sun Sentinel the craze is "perverted." Some of the letters have included suggestive photos of young women. According to the Sun Sentinel, one woman from Chicago sent nine photos of herself that were sexually suggestive. "In my 40 years as public defender, I've never seen this many letters to a defendant," he said. “We read a few religious ones to him that extended wishes for his soul and to come to God,” Finkelstein added, “but we have not and will not read him the fan letters or share the photos of scantily-clad teenage girls.”The Sun Sentinel reported that one person from Texas sent a letter that included hand-drawn hearts and happy faces. "Your eyes are beautiful and the freckles on your face make you so handsome," the woman said in a letter to Cruz. “I’m really skinny and have 34C sized breasts.”A teenager wrote, “I’m 18-years-old. I’m a senior in high school. When I saw your picture on the television, something attracted me to you," the Sun Sentinel reported.Cruz, who admitted to killing 17 people last month at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, awaits trial. Experts weigh in on staying safe when heading to your polling place. The first piece of advice is to have a plan."The example I would give would be going to the grocery store. That's something that caused people a lot of anxiety when we first were dealing with the pandemic back in March, and I think for many of us, it’s becoming relatively routine. It's not how we shopped for groceries back in January but it's something that we’ve learned to do. I think voting can be the same," said Dr. Jay Varkey, an infectious disease doctor and Associate Professor at Emory University.Dr. Varkey says to know the COVID-19 transmission rates in your community, as well as your own personal risk, if you were to become infected with COVID-19."To give some specific examples, masking is absolute, and I would want to make sure that there is a universal mask mandate in place and not just those that are going to cast their votes but workers as well," said Dr. Varkey.Dr. Varkey says wearing a mask that has at least two layers and wearing it properly is key. Also, ensure your polling place allows you to socially distance from other voters. Dr. Varkey says standing more than 6 feet away from others is preferred. Also, it’s great if your polling place is keeping doors and windows open to increase airflow."The other thing, and I know this is hard to do, the more we can actually limit the amount of talking, or certainly yelling or singing or anything else going on, is the more we can reduce our chances of passing these infectious droplets that can aerosolize, and that tends to really occur when people are talking. Masks reduce that risk, but we can really reduce it more by, well, talking less," says Dr. Varkey.In Madison, Wisconsin, poll workers will be ensuring voters are socially-distanced and frequently disinfecting all voting booths, pens and other frequently touched items. City Clerk Maribeth Witzel-Behl has been working closely with their local health department."We will have plexiglass glass set up for stations where poll workers have to interact with voters within 6 feet of each other, and for other poll workers who are not at those stations, they’ll have access to face shields if they like," said Witzel-Behl.Poll workers are also being told to follow a strict set of health guidelines in order to volunteer."If they've had a fever within the last few days or taken a fever-reducing medication in the past few days, they can’t work at the poll. (KGTV) — The man whose body was discovered floating off-shore in the South Bay this week has been identified.Zabiullah Rahmani, 29, was found after he entered the water near an Imperial Beach lifeguard tower during the early morning hours of Aug. 4. Officials said Rahmani was at the beach with a friend when he entered the water. The friend lost sight of him and a short time later, his body was found by joggers in the 700 block of Seacoast Drive.Paramedics pronounced Rahmani dead at the scene.At the time of discovery, the San Diego Sheriff's Department said drugs or alcohol may have played a role in Rahmani's death, but the Medical Examiner report didn't immediately offer a cause of death. 728
