ATLANTA, Ga. – The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said Friday that it’s unlikely that a single brand is responsible for the outbreak of lung illnesses associated with vaping. As of Wednesday, the CDC says all 50 states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands have reported 2,291 patients hospitalized with EVALI, the name given to the mysterious illness. A total of 48 deaths have occurred in 25 states and D.C., according to the CDC. That’s 2% of total reported cases. Since February, the largest number of hospitalized EVALI patients was reported during the week of September 15. Since then, the CDC says there has been a steady decline in hospitalized EVALI patients reported weekly to the CDC.Because most patients reported using THC-containing products before noticing symptom, the CDC recommends that the public not use e-cigarette, or vaping, products that contain THC.While health officials don’t believe one brand is to blame for the outbreak, they say “Dank Vapes” is the most frequently reported product brand, used by 56% of hospitalized EVALI patients nationwide. With that said, the CDC says regional differences in THC products have been noted. TKO and Smart Cart brands were more commonly reported by patients in the West region compared with other regions.“The nationwide diversity of THC-containing products reported by EVALI patients highlights that it is not likely a single brand that is responsible for the EVALI outbreak, and that regional differences in THC-containing products might be related to product sources,” wrote the CDC in a report.Although it appears that vitamin E acetate is associated with EVALI, the CDC says many substances and product sources are being investigated, and there might be more than one cause. Therefore, while the investigation continues, officials say people should consider refraining from the use of all e-cigarette, or vaping, products. 1929

Barneys, an icon of America's luxury clothing world for decades, has filed for bankruptcy. The New York-based retailer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection early Tuesday morning. It said in a statement that it had also secured million from affiliates of Hilco Global and the Gordon Brothers Group to help meet its financial commitments."Like many in our industry, Barneys New York's financial position has been dramatically impacted by the challenging retail environment and rent structures that are excessively high relative to market demand," Barneys CEO Daniella Vitale said in a statement. The bankruptcy filing will allow the company "to conduct a sale process, review our current leases and optimize our operations," she added. The company said it will continue to operate five flagship locations in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Boston, as well as Barneys.com and BarneysWarehouse.com. However, it said it is shutting down stores in Chicago, Las Vegas and Seattle. The company is also shutting down five "concept stores" and seven of its nine Barneys Warehouse stores. The move was not unexpected. Reuters reported last month that filing for bankruptcy protection could help alleviate the pressure of expensive leases. The company traces its history to 1923, 1293

BALTIMORE, Maryland — A Morgan State University math professor believes he's the victim of a romance scam. Dr. Jonathan Farley met his wife through a Russian online dating site. He was after true love, but he believes his wife was after a Green Card and his money. He estimates he lost close to ,000.Farley, an accomplished mathematician, looked at finding love like a statistics problem."There are 10 million more women than men in Russia," said Farley. He liked his odds, so he traveled to Siberia where he met a woman in an unconventional way.“I met her in 2013. I used a mail order bride website called Elenasmodels.com. Even though they used the term ‘mail order,’ no one actually arrives in the mail,” Farley said. The website delivered a match. She was 20, he was 42. Despite the age difference, they thought they'd give it a shot.“We stayed in touch. I sent her about 250 questions about family life, how many kids you'd want to have, other aspects and she answered all of them,” Farley said. Farley later flew to Turkey to meet her parents and after a three-year courtship, they married at the Towson courthouse. Within two weeks of getting married, Farley said his wife's behavior completely changed."The arguments and insults," said Farley. "And the spending was incredible. We went to places like Walmart and she would spend 0. We went to Bed Bath & Beyond and she spent 0. I don't remember how much we spent at Ikea."He says the spending continued, as well as the insults, until he hit his breaking point three months into the marriage. His wife wanted a new coat. When Farley offered to go with her to make the purchase, she got angry."She said, 'Give me the money, give me the money, give me the money, the 0.' And this alarmed me so much, that I realized I have to get out of there," said Farley. He said he tried to reconcile, but after another heated argument at a restaurant that ended with wine in Farley's face, the two agreed to sign a separation agreement.Farley bought her a plane ticket to Turkey and gave her ,000 to start a new life. He drove her to the airport. Before she departed, she left Farley with a parting message."And she told me something cryptic that she could've been much harder on me, and I didn't think she could've been much harder. At one stage, I had a ,000 credit card bill, I think I might've had two of them," Farley said.He didn't know what she meant until he went back to their apartment."We still had a table and three chairs, but everything else had been taken," said Farley. He said she cleaned it out in two days. Looking at the empty room, it finally hit him."All of her seemingly strange behavior then made perfect sense that it was a scam from the very beginning, just to get a Green Card just to spend as much of my money as possible. She had never intended for the marriage to work out," said Farley.Farley called the police and petitioned the state's attorney but both turned down his request to file theft charges.Under Maryland law, a spouse cannot steal from a cohabitating spouse. He messaged the FBI and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services but nothing came of it. And nearly three years later, Farley said he's still legally married to her."Believe it or not, even though we signed a separation agreement that morning with a lawyer, I'm still married," said Farley. "I do feel really stupid, I have to admit, but I don't beat myself up because it was a good scam." 3464

Andrew Luck, a quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts, announced over the weekend that he was retiring from professional football at 29 years old, drawing reactions from just about every corner of the internet."This is not an easy decision," Luck said. "For the last four years or so I've been in this cycle of injury, pain, rehab, injury, pain, rehab. And it's been unceasing and unrelenting ... and the only way I see out is to no longer play football."Injuries had kept Luck from playing in the preseason. Luck said the pain has taken away his joy for the game and he hasn't been able to live the life he wants to live. He played the 2016 season in pain, he said, and made a vow he wouldn't go down that road again. According to 744

Attorney General William Barr has agreed to go before the House Judiciary Committee on March 31 to respond to allegations that the Department of Justice is making decisions that are politically influenced. The House Judiciary Committee wants to question Barr on three incidents from this week that it found questionable. One was the DOJ's decision to overrule prosecutors' recommended sentence of Trump ally Roger Stone. Stone was convicted on charges of lying to Congress, tampering with a witness and obstructing a House investigation. On Monday, the prosecution asked the judge for a 7-9 year sentence of Stone. But following tweets from the president, Barr overruled the prosecutors, stating that the sentencing guidelines prosecutors used were too harsh."This is a horrible and very unfair situation. The real crimes were on the other side, as nothing happens to them. Cannot allow this miscarriage of justice!” Trump tweeted on Tuesday. A second incident the committee is investigating is on Barr stating publicly that he has opened a "channel" for President Donald Trump's attorney Rudolph Giuliani to deliver information to the DOJ involving presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son Hunter. Giuliani has openly said that he is looking for information from the Ukrainian government on whether the former vice president and his son conducted any wrongdoing when Joe Biden pushed for the ouster of a Ukrainian prosecutor. The third is the decision to pull the nomination of Jessie Liu, who is a U.S. Attorney who originally was nominated for a post in the Treasury Department. Liu oversaw the office that tried the prosecutions of several Trump allies, including Stone and former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. The Judiciary Committee is chaired by Democrat Jerry Nadler, who was on the team that managed Trump's impeachment trial in the U.S. Senate. 1882
