LAS VEGAS, Nev. (KTNV) - A security guard opened fire at a Ross Dress for Less in Las Vegas Saturday, sending customers into hiding for their safety, witnesses said.The shooting happened Saturday around 4 p.m. at the store in the Blue Diamond Crossing strip mall on Blue Diamond Rd.Dramatic video shows Ross customers, including a child, ducking under clothes racks as shots rang out.Watch the video:Witnesses said police arrived and exchanged shots with the gunman, who was hit by police gunfire. He was taken to a hospital for surgery. No one else was hurt.Shoppers at nearby Kohl's and Target stores were evacuated or sheltered in place during the exchange.The security guard was reportedly arguing with the store manager before the shooting. When police arrived, he also fired at them. It is not known at this time why the argument started.No personal information has been released about the security guard. The name of the officer who shot him will be released this week, according to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department policy.  1057

(KGTV) – After being closed by the city in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, the La Mesa attraction known as the “secret stairs” was reopened to the public.The city announced Wednesday that the popular destination near Windsor Drive is open with specific social distancing guidelines in place.The stairs, widely used as a community trail or exercise route, was shut down on March 24 due to visitors not following social distancing rules.Despite the closure, some residents told the city that warning signs noting guidelines were being ignored.With the reopening, city officials are asking visitors to know the following before going to the stairs:WEAR A MASK: Everyone should wear a mask covering their face at all times while in this public space.MAINTAIN DISTANCE: Keep physical distance of 6 feet between individuals from different households and prevent crowding.PLAN AHEAD: Visit at times or days that are less crowded.KNOW WHEN TO STAY HOME: Those with underlying medical conditions should avoid public spaces when others are present. (KGTV) - Tired firefighters, including one featured in a viral photo, returned home to Lakeside Tuesday after almost two weeks of battling the Ferguson Fire in Mariposa County.James Paterson was captured in a photograph shared on Twitter with his head resting on his chest in apparent exhaustion.Paterson’s strike team was on day 10 of its deployment to the Sierra Nevada foothills.  "That was one of those really long shifts," he said.  "It was 5 a.m., and the sun had come up. My engineer had just caught me, having a hard time keeping my eyes open.""I think it’s a glimpse into what we do," said Shawn McKenna, who took the picture "It’s beyond the red trucks, lights, and sirens. What do you do most with your time?
