SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Hundreds of protesters gathered in Balboa Park Monday evening, the third day of protests in the San Diego region. A large group began coalescing near the San Diego Police Department headquarters near Broadway and 13th St in the afternoon. As night fell, the group marched up Park Boulevard past San Diego City College and into Balboa Park. Law enforcement officers followed closely. Freeway on-ramps and off-ramp were blocked by CHP officers in tactical gear along the route, preventing protesters from accessing the freeways. After marching through the park, the group stopped near El Prado and Sixth Ave. Many in the group laid down on their stomachs with their arms behind their backs, chanting “I can’t breathe,” in honor of George Floyd, the unarmed black man killed in police custody in Minnesota on May 25, 2020. Afterwards, they held a moment of silence for those killed at the hands of police. Many demonstrators dispersed after, though a group began forming again outside SDPD headquarters. At 10:25, SDPD tweeted that “bottles, fireworks and other objects” were being thrown at officers near their headquarters. Several minutes later, police declared the protest an unlawful assembly and began clearing the area, tweeting, “those who remain or return against this lawful order may be cited/arrested and risk exposure to chemical agents & less-lethal force applications.” As of 11 p.m. SDPD had announced they made one arrest for vandalism. 1481

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Green Flash Brewery has been sold to a new investment group, continuing a turbulent start to the year for the San Diego-based brewery.The company announced Monday the finalized sale to the group made up of "individuals with extensive experience" in craft beer and food and beverage industries.In a letter to shareholders published on The Full Pint, CEO Mike Hinkley said the company's lender, Comerica Bank, had "foreclosed on its loans and sold the assets of the company ... to WC IPA LLC."RELATED: National City adopts 'craft beer ordinance' to attract breweriesGreen Flash had reportedly taken on a loan for the development of a Virginia Beach, Va., brewery, which has also closed."As such, the Company no longer owns the Green Flash and Alpine businesses. Comerica Bank is currently conducting a separate process to sell the Virginia Beach brewery," the letter continued.The Virginia brewery closing followed that of Green Flash's Poway barrel-aging facility, Cellar 3, also closing this year. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Drug maker Moderna announced it had started the process of testing its COVID-19 vaccine on children ages 12 to 17. The company dosed the first adolescents Thursday.“I think all of us are interested in getting control of this pandemic, and I think one of the opportunities here is to be able to immunize children also,” said Dr. Stephen Spector. He leads Moderna’s Phase 3 clinical trial on adults at UC San Diego. “We’re interested in participating; we haven’t heard yet from the sponsor.”Spector is also a pediatrician and said generally, children tolerate viral vaccines better than adults. This study will answer many important questions.“Are there possible adverse effects in children that weren’t seen in adults, and will they be more severe?” he said.“The primary concerns now are whether or not the vaccine will be safe in children, and whether it will provide the same immune response in children as was seen in adults.”Spector said once those factors have been determined, the vaccine can likely be approved to be used on children.“Because we already know the vaccine works in adults, given the immune response will be a determinant of vaccine efficacy, you see that in children, then the vaccine can be approved for them as well,” he explained.Data released by Moderna showed the vaccine efficacy against COVID-19 was 94 percent in adult participants, and the company has requested emergency use authorization from the FDA.“I’m not going to minimize that there have been some side effects, but they’re usually short-lasting, maybe a day or two of three days at most,” he said. “The fact that the vaccine is over 90 percent effective really puts it in the same realm as measles, rubella, and other kinds of vaccines that have been tremendously successful in containing viral infections.”Moderna will split the participants into two separate groups, half getting the placebo and the other half getting two vaccine shots 28 days apart.The company hopes to enroll 3,000 young people in the study, with a goal of generating data in the spring of 2021 and potentially vaccinating kids shortly after, in time for the next school year.“At this point, there are convincing data that the vaccine works, the FDA will review that data next week, and the expectation is there will be an emergency use approval by the end of next week for the vaccine,” said Spector. 2389

"It's the Mexican response to the threat of tariffs made by President Trump. if they don't do enough to stop Central Americans from entering their country, and traveling across Mexico and entering our country."Televisa tells 10News that 500 troops will patrol from Calexico to Tijuana. There will be a ceremony Sunday in Mexico City."If they [troops] come across illegal immigrants they'll have to apprehend them and take them to a facility to hold onto them until they decide what to do," Bee said, whether that's sending them back home or allowing them to apply for asylum.Mexico already ramped up pressure on migrants, by cutting funding to overflowing migrant shelters, "shelters in Mexico have less access to resources, they are receiving hundreds and hundreds more people than before.
