PORTSMOUTH, Va.— A hit-and-run in Portsmouth, Virginia, left residents shaken up.Police say a driver hit a U.S. Postal Service letter carrier and drove off, leaving her in serious condition.Judi Gould was overcome with emotion Tuesday afternoon as a witness to the aftermath of a hit-and-run.“You can’t imagine what it’s like to see her like that,” said Gould.She says her beloved letter carrier was struck down in the middle of the street near Airline Boulevard and Caroline Avenue while delivering mail on her route.Police say the 44-year-old was crossing Airline Boulevard when she was hit by a vehicle just before 11 a.m.Police are looking for the driver of a black Dodge Journey that flagged down an officer about the crash. They are asking for the public to share any images from Alexander's Corner to Rodman Avenue between 10:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. Tuesday.The United States Postal Inspection Service is offering a reward of up to ,000 to anyone with information that could lead to an arrest.“She is like the most upbeat mail carrier. It was raining and she still was just glowing, just walking as fast as she could,” said Gould.She says it was only minutes after she saw her bubbly letter carrier that she heard the sirens.“The police were out there picking up all the mail and trying to gather it, and all you do is just watch them.”Gould watched nearby as first responders worked desperately to find signs of life.“They tried for the longest time to revive her. I’ve never seen them try so long and so hard, and she just wasn’t moving.”Multiple neighbors say the intersection at Airline Boulevard and Caroline Avenue is a trouble spot and say something needs to be done about cars flying through the area.“We need a light here we; really need a light here. If they don’t get a street light here, it’s gonna keep getting bad,” said Gould.Now, Gould is pleading for someone who may have details about the driver who left the scene or their vehicle to come forward.“I’m begging, somebody - please hold somebody accountable for this lady’s life, please.”In the meantime, she’ll be thinking of victim’s family, hoping they get closure before the holidays.“If you did it, and you know you did, it was an accident; please come forward. POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) -- A family in Poway escaped after their home burst into flames in Poway Sunday morning. The fire started at a home on the 17000 block of St. Andrews Drive around 3 a.m. According to firefighters, crews were able to extinguish the flames in most of the attic, but the home was a total loss. A man inside the home at the time of the fire says he and his adult son woke up to the smoke alarms going off. "I never thought that things would happen this quickly in a fire that I was involved with in the house. I though well, I'll have time to get stuff out. It going to be in one part of the house. But this thing was like, you couldn't go in any part of the house after we were aware of it for a minute or two,” said homeowner Greg Heer. Heer said they were able to get their two dogs out of the home, but the flames were too intense to return and rescue several kittens.A board and care home next door had to be evacuated as crews battled the flame. President Donald Trump isn't letting up on pushing false claims about the 2020 election, even after the Electoral College upheld president-elect Joe Biden's win on Monday.In the early morning hours of Tuesday, Trump took to Twitter to spread more disinformation about voting systems and unsubstantiated voter fraud claims. The flood of misinformation forced Twitter to apply seven warning labels about election security to seven tweets or retweets from the president.The Electoral College's vote on Monday to seal Biden's win in the 2020 election gives Trump little recourse to further challenge the results. The Supreme Court has already rejected several lawsuits brought by the Trump campaign, and with Electoral Votes cast, the election is now out of the hands of the states which counted the votes.In a speech delivered Monday following the Electoral College vote, Biden delivered his most pointed criticism of Trump's continued election denialism yet. He described one lawsuit — in which Conservative-leaning states sued other battleground states in an attempt to overturn the results of the election — as "so extreme, we've never seen it before, a position that refused to respect the will of the people, refused to respect the rule of law, and refused to honor our Constitution.""Thankfully, a unanimous Supreme Court immediately and completely rejected this effort," Biden said. President Donald Trump announced on Twitter Tuesday night that the stimulus bill passed by an overwhelming majority of Congress on Monday was not suitable, and he called on Congress to dramatically increase the amount of direct aid to individuals. At the same time the 0 billion stimulus bill was passed, Congress approved a broader government funding package that operates the government. Trump cited funds used for foreign aid and for other government-funded programs as reasons he will not support the stimulus bill. The bill passed by Congress on Monday includes 0 direct payments for Americans making less than ,000 per year. Trump called on Congress to increase the amount of direct payments to ,000 per person. "I am also asking Congress to immediately get rid of the wasteful and unnecessary items from this legislation," Trump said, "and to send me a suitable bill or else the next administration will have to deliver a COVID relief package and maybe that administration will be me." Trump lost last month's presidential election, and President-elect Joe Biden will be sworn in on January 20. The bill passed with a veto-proof majority in Congress. Trump has not officially vetoed the bill yet, and Congress will have to wait for Trump to veto it before voting to override the veto. But because there is a new Congress being sworn in on January 3, the House and Senate would have to override the veto by then, or else start the process all over again. Trump has 10 days from Monday to veto the bill before it is enacted. Some on both sides of the aisle have called on increasing the amount of direct payments.
