BEIJING, OCT. 6 (Xinhua) -- China on Tuesday expressed appreciation over the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s commitment to the goal of a nuclear-free Korean Peninsular and its adherence to realizing the goal through multilateral dialogues including the six-party talks.     Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu made the remarks in response to questions on the Korean Peninsular nuclear issue..  Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao (R) shakes hands with Kim Jong Il, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), during a meeting in Pyongyang, capital of the DPRK, Oct. 5, 2009.    China has always supported the DPRK-U.S. bilateral dialogue aiming at increasing mutual understanding and trust, and believed all sides should adhere to the six-party talks and make joint efforts for the early resumption of the process, Ma said in a statement.

BEIJING, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Prosecutors have approved the arrest of four employees of the Anglo-Australian mining giant Rio Tinto Ltd. on charges of trade secrets infringement and bribery, according to a statement of China's Supreme People's Procuratorate late Tuesday. Preliminary investigations have showed that the four employees, Stern Hu, Liu Caikui, Ge Minqiang and Wang Yong, had obtained commercial secrets of China's steel and iron industry through improper means, which had violated the country's Criminal Law, according to the statement.     Prosecution authorities also found evidence to prove that they were involved in commercial bribery. Four employees of the Anglo-Australian miner Rio Tinto Ltd. have been arrested over alleged stealing of China's state secrets, including Stern Hu, general manager of the company's Shanghai offic. The four people, including Hu, had been detained by China's security authorities Sunday evening    Investigations have also revealed that there were suspects in China's steel and iron enterprises who were providing commercial secrets for them.     The four were detained in Shanghai in early July on charges of stealing China's state secrets.          Stern Hu, an Australian citizen of Chinese origin, was general manager of the company's Shanghai office and was in charge of the iron ore business in China.     Hu was a long-standing employee of Rio Tinto and had lived in Shanghai for a number of years with his wife, who is also an Australian citizen.     The other three, who also worked in the Shanghai office, are Chinese employees of the company.

BEIJING, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- A Senior Chinese official on Friday called for fresh efforts to furnish occupational security for police and take good care of their relatives.     Zhou Yongkang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks when meeting with representatives of the relatives of police officers who died on duty.     More than 10,000 police officers died on duty with honor in the past 60years, and more than 150,000 more had been injured when protecting the country's social stability, Zhou said.     He urged Party, government and police departments at all levels to take into account of the occupational hazards of the police and take measures to provide better treatment for them.     The livelihood of the relatives of police officers, especially those who died on duty, must also be secured, Zhou said.     He urged the police to live up to the people's expectations and make new contributions to the Party and the people.

BEIJING, July 25 (Xinhua) -- China issued alert on 8 p.m. Saturday for flood in the country's Hunan and Jiangxi provinces which left dozens people dead or missing and displaced hundreds of thousands, and sent relief groups to the two provinces.     As of 4 p.m. of Saturday, five people were killed, 10 were missing and about 64,000 were relocated by the widespread heavy rain in Hunan since July 23, said the Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters. BEIJING, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese leaders on Sunday attended a concert of a renowned Chinese singer to commemorate the 70th anniversary of her participation into the country's revolutionary artistic cause.     Jia Qinglin, Li Changchun and He Guoqiang, all members of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, attended the concert performed by Wang Kun and her students.     Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao sent a congratulatory letter to the show, which was jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture and the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles.     Wang Kun, born in 1925, was the protagonist in the opera of the White-Haired Girl, a household legend describing the sufferings by local farmers under the exploitation of landlords before 1949.
