Companies are trying to figure out what working remotely will look like long-term.Facebook expects half of its workforce to work remotely within the next 10 years. That can mean both positives and negatives.“We actually have the ability to diversify the workforce in a way we never really could before, because of the constraints that are around housing,” said Jennifer Stojkovic, Executive Director at sf.citi, a nonprofit organization developed to empower the San Francisco tech community to have a voice in local policy decisions. Some of the positives include diversity, flexibility, cheaper cost of living, and work-life balance. Many companies could end up following in the footsteps of big tech and going with a corporate head office and communal space for teams to get together.“Right now, that getting together might look like once a week, but if these teams start to decentralize, that getting together might look like once a month the entire team flies in,” said Stojkovic. Some workers may not work well at home.“There are a range of taxing mental health issues arising from COVID-19 and working from home for prolonged periods of time is one of them,” said Dr. Jason Rao at Cornell University.JPMorgan Chase just announced productivity and creativity at the company have taken a hit. Some of their employees are being required to return to offices next week.Salary experts say you may be able to use long-term remote work as a negotiation tool if your company freed salaries or had cuts or furloughs.Senior managers are worried about retaining top talent.“From the get-go, we're seeing it advertised, companies that are giving us openings and reacquisitions to work on are talking about it right away,” said Paul McDonald, Senior Executive Director at Robert Half.If you're changing jobs and starting remotely, job experts say it’s important to ask about the long-term – if the position will stay remote, be hybrid or will eventually return to the office full-time. 1983

Congress plans to unveil a massive bipartisan .3 trillion spending package Wednesday that will keep the government funded until the end of September, and the White House and GOP leaders say the plan has President Donald Trump's support. But questions remain whether the proposal can pass Congress without shutting down the government.Lawmakers have agreed on funding levels for every corner of the government with 0 billion budgeted for defense and 1 billion slated for non-defense spending, but the legislation also is expected to include policy riders like a bill that incentivizes state and federal authorities to report more data to the country's gun background check system -- commonly known around Capitol Hill as "Fix NICS." 746

Coca-Cola will soon be giving Japanese consumers a new kind of buzz.In a departure from its traditional soda business, Coke plans to launch an alcoholic drink in Japan this year. It's trying to get in on the growing market for "chu-hi" -- canned, flavored drinks typically made with sparkling water and shochu, a Japanese spirit distilled from grains. The new drink is a "highly Japan-specific approach given the complexity and richness" of Coke's range of products in the country, Coke spokesperson Yohko Okabe told CNN on Wednesday. The company declined to give further details on the plans, but in a recent blog post, the president of Coca-Cola Japan said the drink would be "unique" in Coke's history."We haven't experimented in the low alcohol category before," Jorge Gardu?o said in the post. The storied soft drinks company is set to enter a crowded market. Big Japanese beverage makers like Kirin and Suntory already produce popular "chu-hi" drinks.Brewing up an alcoholic beverage is just Coke's latest Japanese experiment. The country is one of the company's most competitive and fast changing markets. It says it launches about 100 new products there every year.Other big global brands have tried unusual things to cater to Japanese consumers' palates. Nestlé opened a factory last year in Japan to meet the growing demand for weirdly flavored KitKat bars.Coke has dabbled in alcohol in the past, buying wine businesses in the US in the 1970s. That foray was widely seen as a failure, and it quit the wine industry a few years later. But CEO James Quincey has said the company needs to experiment beyond its classic soda brands. Some drinks it created specifically for Japanese consumers have found success in other markets.Few Americans have heard of Aquarius (a sports drink), Georgia Coffee (a canned coffee drink) or Sokenbicha (a blended tea drink), yet Coke says that each of those concoctions created for the Japanese market has generated global sales of billion or more in the past five years.Coke fans outside of Japan hoping for a stiffer drink from the company shouldn't get their hopes up, though."I don't think people around the world should expect to see this kind of thing from Coca-Cola," Gardu?o said of the planned "chu-hi" drink. But in an interview with CNN last month, Quincey left open the possibility of introducing alcohol in the US one day."Never say never," he said.  2413

County employees in southern California have been arrested for allegedly damaging a Black Lives Matter sign that was displayed on private property in the city of Thousand Oaks. The homeowner installed a surveillance camera and captured several instances of people damaging and trying to remove the sign, which is a tarp along a fence with the letters "BLM" on it. Authorities said they recognized one of the vandals after the homeowner posted surveillance video on social media, according to the LA Times. Three people so far have been arrested, including Darin Stone, a sheriff's office employee in a non-sworn-in position. He was allegedly seen slashing the sign in two separate incidents while off-duty.Stone received a misdemeanor citation and was placed on administrative leave.Craig Anderson, an investigative assistant in the Ventura County DA's office was cited for vandalism. He resigned from his position.A third man, Jeffrey Moore, has also been arrested in connection with damaging the sign. This story originally reported by Anthony Wright at turnto23.com. 1077

CLEARWATER, Fla. — Hundreds, maybe thousands, of Trump supporters set sail in Clearwater on Saturday in an attempt to break the world record for the largest boat parade. The goal of the event was to draw more than 1,000 boats to travel from Clearwater Beach to the John's Pass area.Pictures from the event show a massive turnout, though the exact number of boats in attendance isn't yet known. 400
