A now-deceased University of Michigan doctor is being investigated for complaints of sexual abuse.The university is asking any former patients of Robert E. Anderson who believe they were subjected to sexual misconduct during a medical exam to contact the U-M Compliance Hotline.Anderson was a former director of University Health Service and a former athletic team physician who worked at the university from 1968 until his retirement in 2003. He died in 2008.An investigation began in July 2018 when a former student athlete wrote to Athletic Director Warde Manual to detail abuse during medical exams by Anderson in the early 1970s, the university says.During the investigation, the university says it identified dozens of people who described incidents of sexual misconduct by Anderson. Now, the university is asking anyone with additional information to come forward.“The allegations that were reported are disturbing and very serious,” said President Mark Schlissel in a news release. “We promptly began a police investigation and cooperated fully with the prosecutor’s office.The former patients describe sexual misconduct and unnecessary medical exams, the university says. A new shareholder complaint against AT&T claims the company encouraged employees to create fake accounts for its DirecTV Now streaming service to juice its subscriber numbers and mislead investors ahead of its acquisition of Time Warner, shareholders allege in an amended complaint filed last week as part of a lawsuit against the company.According to the lawsuit, employees — who faced aggressive sales quotas — were "taught and actively encouraged" to convert activation fees that customers paid to upgrade their phones into the price for multiple DirecTV Now subscriptions. This was allegedly executed by "waiving the fee, but charging the customer anyway, and applying the payment to up to three DirecTV Now accounts using fake email addresses."The complaint claims customers were not told they had been signed up for a subscription, and that the company is said to have fielded regular complaints from customers who said that they were billed for accounts they did not sign up for. But for thousands of couples this year, it's become a nightmare, because they have to cancel their reception, and couples are finding they can't get a refund due to the contract they signed months ago with their reception venue.Kristina Finley's dream wedding was scheduled for May 30, until COVID-19 and her governor changed her plans.Despite a state shutdown of big events, her mother, Becky Finley, said her daughter can't get her money back from her venue."She asked for a refund, and they said actually my daughter owed them the second half of the payment," Finley said.The wedding venue still has their ,500 deposit, half the total cost of the ,000 wedding and reception, the family said.It offered new dates next year, but Finley's daughter does not want to wait, and instead she has selected a small church wedding and backyard party for the original date."My daughter picked May 30, 2020. All the invitations, the pre-engagement announcements, everything had that date on it," Finley said.
