New research from AAA shows too many senior citizen drivers are not having conversations about when they should stop driving.AAA says that by the year 2030, 1 in 5 drivers will be over the age of 65, which is why the company is urging people to have conversations with their older family members sooner rather than later.According to the study, 83 percent of older drivers report never having a conversation with family or a doctor about their safe driving ability.  The report states that those who do only do so after being involved in a crash or other driving incidents.AAA recommends having conversations with seniors before you start seeing red flags.Here are things to keep in mind when beginning a dialogue with your loved one:Start early and talk often. Make sure you stay positive, and make sure they know the focus is on their own safety.Avoid generalizations about older drivers’ abilities.Have a one-on-one conversation. Doing it with the entire family can make a driver feel alienated.Stick to facts. Focus on a medical condition or medication that might make driving unsafe, and don’t assume their driving should be stopped altogether.Plan together. Let the driver play an active role in planning for their “driving retirement.”In 2016, more than 200,000 senior drivers were injured in traffic crashes. NEW YORK CITY — Two men have been indicted in the 2002 murder of Run-DMC DJ Jam Master Jay, officials announced on Monday.The hip-hop star, whose real name is Jason Mizell, was shot and killed in his recording studio in Queens on Oct. 30, 2002. He was 37.Federal prosecutors and members of the NYPD identified the suspects as Ronald Washington and Karl Jordan Jr. Watch the news conference below:Washington has long been a person of interest in the case. He is currently serving a federal prison sentence for robbery and is expected to be arraigned in connection with Jam Master Jay's death later this week.Jordan Jr. was expected to be arraigned on murder and other charges Monday afternoon.Jam Master Jay was one-third of the celebrated rap group, Run-DMC — one of the most popular trios in hip-hop history. His fellow group members, Joseph "Run" Simmons and Darryl "D.M.C." McDaniels, were not in the second-floor studio on Merrick Boulevard in Jamaica when the gunfire broke out.The hip-hop legend was known for his Adidas wardrobe, black hat, leather jacket, and large, gold chain. As a DJ, he had hands of gold.The NYPD said Jam Master Jay was part of a cocaine trafficking conspiracy that led to his murder, and said the DJ had threatened to cut one of his alleged killers out of a deal with a Maryland distributor.Jay was playing video games on a couch in the studio shortly before two men were buzzed in by his assistant, Lydia High. NEW YORK (AP) — The U.S. Justice Department is asking to take over President Donald Trump’s defense in a defamation lawsuit from a writer who accused him of rape. Federal lawyers also asked a court Tuesday to allow a move that could put the American people on the hook for any money E. Jean Carroll might be awarded. The Justice Department lawyers argue that Trump was “acting within the scope of his office” when he denied Carroll’s allegations last year that he raped her in a New York luxury department store in the mid-1990s.She says his comments besmirched her character and harmed her career.The filing complicates, at least for the moment, Carroll’s efforts to get a DNA sample from the president as potential evidence and to have him answer questions under oath.It comes amid concerns that Attorney General William Barr has gone out of his way to intervene in other legal cases involving Trump or his allies. Barr tried to decrease the amount of prison time his office sought for Trump ally Roger Stone following a criminal trial where he was found guilty. (Stone’s sentence was later commuted by Trump.) NEW YORK (AP) — Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred says there might be no major league games this year.This comes amid a breakdown in talks between teams and the players' union on how to split up money in a season delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.The league also revealed several players have tested positive for COVID-19.Two days after union head Tony Clark declared additional negotiations futile, Deputy Commissioner Dan Halem sent a seven-page letter to players’ association chief negotiator Bruce Meyer asking the union whether it will waive the threat of legal action and tell MLB to announce a spring training report date and a regular-season schedule.“The proliferation of COVID-19 outbreaks around the country over the last week, and the fact that we already know of several 40-man roster players and staff who have tested positive, has increased the risks associated with commencing spring training in the next few weeks,” Halem wrote in his letter to Meyer, which was obtained by the Associated Press.The pandemic caused the league to stop spring training on March 12, two weeks before the start of the season. On March 26, the sides reached an agreement on how to revise their labor deal to account for the virus. Hostility has escalated since then as both sides exchange offers. 1301
