SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 55-year-old homeless man who was attacked with a skateboard while sleeping in North Park has died, San Diego Police said.Arthur Angulo was sleeping in alley in the 2800 block of El Cajon Boulevard  at around 4:30 a.m. Saturday when a man bashed him repeatedly with a skateboard, according to police.  Angulo suffered ``visible signs of major trauma to his upper body,'' San Diego police homicide Lt. Todd Griffin said.``The attack was unprovoked," officer Tony Martinez said over the weekend.RELATED: Sleeping homeless man attacked in North ParkAngulo was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where medical staff determined he would not survive and placed him on life support, Griffin said.He was removed from life support Thursday "and died in the hospital as the result of his injuries,'" Griffin said.Police said the attacker is white, about six feet tall, and between 19 and 26 years old. SAN DIEGO (CNS) -- Two San Diego-area teachers are among six state finalists announced Tuesday for the 2020 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.According to the State Department of Education, the award honors teachers who "display subject mastery, appropriate use of instructional methods and strategies, lifelong learning and leadership in education outside the classroom."The PAEMST is presented by the National Science Foundation. Up to 108 teachers are recognized each year."These teachers are incredible educators, role models and mentors to all those around them, and through mastery of their craft, they inspire students to study math, technology, engineering, and science -- including computer science," State Education Secretary Tony Thurmond said. "They're bright stars and prime examples of excellence in our educational system, and we hope that all students can enroll in great STEAM and computer science programs with educators like them, to prepare them for the jobs of tomorrow."Khamphet Pease, a sixth-grade teacher at Wilson Middle School in San Diego, was named a finalist in the mathematics category. An educator for 14 years, Pease teaches courses in Introduction to Coding; Gateway to Technology: Design and Modeling, Automation and Robotics; and Computer Science for Innovators and Makers. From 2014-16 she also mentored 16 high school girls from schools across the county to build a microlab experiment that was sent to the International Space Station to test zero gravity.Marlys Williamson, a fifth-grade teacher at Wolf Canyon Elementary in Chula Vista, was named a finalist in the science category. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Three Palomar College students will attend a national technology summit Wednesday to meet with students from around the country and share their work focusing on technological innovation.Quin Smith, a geologic information systems student, and drone technology students Isaac Hernandez and Diana Perez received scholarships from the National Science Foundation and the American Association of Community Colleges to attend the three-day Advanced Technology Education conference in Washington, D.C.Two students from Palomar College attended the conference last year as well as part of an NSF grant program, according to the college."It's really exciting to have our students share their work and their experience -- not only with other students from around the country, but also with the faculty and NSF program officers who will be at the conference," geography professor and drone technology program co-founder Wing Cheung said.The three students are expected to learn more about technology careers and development from industry professionals and some 850 student attendees.The ATE conference is in its 26th year, according to the AACC."This is going to help me learn how to break into the field and see what I want to do because we'll get to see all kinds of applications (for drone technology) we wouldn't have even thought about," Perez said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A Baja Beach Cafe employee is suing her employer and her former manager, alleging sexual harassment, negligence and sexual battery. Allison Biagioni has worked at Baja Beach Cafe in Pacific Beach Cafe for three years. Biagioni says her former manager sexually harassed her multiple times. Biagioni says the incident that made her come forward was this past January at a birthday party with coworkers. Biagioni says, the manager at the time, groped her, kissed her, and put her hand in his crotch. He also allegedly made inappropriate comments towards Biagioni in front of other coworkers. Biagioni's attorney, Anna Yum, tells 10News the incident was reported to San Diego Police, but 10News is not naming the former manager because he was never arrested or charged with a crime. The Baja Beach employee says she expressed her concerns with another manager and to human resources, but says the manager tried to dissuade her from moving forward with her complaint. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Clairemont man convicted of stabbing his mother to death was sentenced to 26 years to life in prison Friday.Joseph Robert Burks, 31, was convicted in June of first-degree murder in the July 24, 2017, slaying of his 58-year-old mother, Angela Burks, who was a longtime Otay Ranch High School science teacher.Police say Burks used a stun gun to incapacitate his mother, before stabbing her more than 20 times in the head, neck, and throat at the home they shared.RELATED: 499
