(KGTV) - The man who prosecutors believe was the target of a murder for hire came face-to-face Tuesday with those charged: His estranged wife and her gun instructor.Greg Mulvihill described the moments leading up to him being shot, saying he didn't realize he'd been shot right away and at first he thought he felt something in his back even though he could see the sniper in front of him. The North County father described a bitter custody battle in which he was accused of everything from drug use to sexual assault and molestation of their young son.RELATED: Trial begins in Carlsbad murder-for-hire plotMulvihill says he went up a remote trail in Carlsbad on Sept. 1, 2016, out of desperation, fearing his ex-wife, Diana Lovejoy, would reopen their custody battle. He took a friend, a flashlight and a small aluminum baseball bat but he thought he was picking up documents from a private investigator.Instead, as he approached the spot off Rancho Santa Fe Road and Avenida Soledad, he shined his flashlight around and spotted someone dressed in camouflage pointing a long gun right at him.Before he knew what was happening he was hit once in the side, the bullet exiting out his back.In the courtroom Tuesday, his ex-wife and the man accused of firing the gun, her weapons instructor, sat quietly, Lovejoy crying at times and shaking her head at others. Mulvihill was cross-examined Tuesday and the trial will resume Wednesday morning. 1506

Wall Street does not like the mixed messages coming out of the White House on trade.The Dow fell 600 points, or 2.4%, on Friday afternoon. The Nasdaq plunged 3%, while the S&P 500 retreated 2.4%.The Dow closed for the day down 588 points.Stocks had been trading higher earlier Friday, but the market turned sharply lower following conflicting messages coming out of the Trump administration about trade.While White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow sounded an optimistic note about China talks on CNBC, trade adviser Peter Navarro was simultaneously warning on CNN of higher tariffs if issues aren't resolved during the 90-day negotiating period."We've gotten a hodge-podge of mixed messages from people in the same administration," said Art Hogan, chief market strategist at B. Riley FBR. "We're not sure who we're supposed to listen to."Investors also received a softer jobs report on Friday. The Labor Department said the United States?added 155,000 jobs in November, missing expectations for a gain of 200,000. But the labor news did not trigger a selloff and some traders likely figured the slowdown in hiring will reduce pressure on the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates.Worries about the negative consequences of the trade war and hopes for progress have launched Wall Street on a wild ride of late. The US-China ceasefire sent stocks soaring on Monday. But doubts about the truce helped knock the Dow nearly 800 points into the red on Tuesday. WASHINGTON (AP) — More than 1.3 million Americans applied for unemployment benefits last week, a historically high pace that shows that many employers are still laying people off in the face of a resurgent coronavirus.In the week ending July 4, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 1,314,000, a decrease of 99,000 from the previous week’s revised level, the U.S. Department of Labor said Thursday.The persistently elevated level of layoffs is occurring as a spike in virus cases has forced six states to reverse their move to reopen businesses.Those six — Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Michigan and Texas — make up one-third of the U.S. economy. Fifteen other states have suspended their reopenings.Collectively, the pullback has stalled a tentative recovery in the job market and is likely triggering additional layoffs.A resurgence of confirmed viral cases is threatening to derail what had looked like the start of an economic recovery. VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. -- Michael Yager says he was outraged after learning his son, Jacob, bullied multiple classmates at New Smyrna Beach Middle School in Volusia County, Florida. "I figured I would teach him a lesson that would embarrass him and make him feel the way kids feel," he said.Wanting to teach his 13-year-old a lesson the frustrated father took an unorthodox approach. "I wrote the sign, I'm a bully. Honk if you hate bullies." Yager drove his son to nearby State Route 442 and parked him on a busy corner.His son had to hold the sign high."Embarrassed and kind of nervous," Jacob admitted.He says it did not take long for people to start honking.  Some even stopped to talk to father and son."I had Edgewater Police stop by, I had Volusia County Sheriffs. I had a good response from the neighborhood," Jacob's father said.But he acknowledged not everyone agrees with his parenting. "I had one woman come up and call me every name in the book. "How do you respond to parents who say putting your son out on the road is, in fact, bullying your own son?" he was asked."In my mind, I was doing the right thing, but I guess you cannot please everybody," Michael Yager said. A recent staggering statistic shows one out of every five students report being bullied. Jacob said he has learned a valuable lesson. "You never know what someone can be going through. WARNING: Some might find the video disturbing due to content and languageDELRAY BEACH, Fla.-- Delray Beach, Florida police officers responded to a call Saturday of a woman and children standing on a roof. When they got there, they say they found a 23-year-old woman who was hallucinating and two small children on the garage ledge on a townhouse. Officer Rob Addea got under the window, ready to catch a child or the woman if necessary, police said.“Just get the kids back inside,” Addea said.Two other officers went upstairs and out a window to the ledge and one grabbed the children's arms while the other tried to reason with the woman, police said.Police eventually were able to rescue all of them.Body camera video recorded the actions of the officers. The woman has been committed to a mental health facility under the Baker Act and might face criminal charges, police said.The Florida Department of Children and Families is investigating and the children are in their custody.  1032
