BEIJING, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- China's power consumption in September continued to rise with a faster increasing rate, according to China's National Energy Administration (NEA) on Thursday. Power consumption in September rose 10.24 percent from the same month last year to 322.41 billion kilowatt hours last month. The increasing rate was 2 percentage points up from that of August. Accumulative power consumption in the first nine months topped 2.66 trillion kilowatt hours, an increase of 1.4 percent over the same period last year. In the first three quarters, power consumption of the primary industry which covers agriculture, animal husbandry and fishery, added 6.35 percent from a year earlier to 72.5 billion kilowatt hours. The second industry, including mining, manufactural, building and construction sectors, consumed 1.95 trillion kilowatt hours, representing a decrease of 1.67 percent over the same period last year. Power consumption in the service sector climbed 11.26 percent year on year to 293.5 billion kilowatt hours in the first three quarters.

BEIJING, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- China's new yuan-dominated loans in September was expected to reach 300-400 billion yuan (44-59 billion U.S. dollars), China Securities Journal reported on its website Tuesday. The figure was less than that of August, which hit 410.4 billion yuan. Liu Mingkang, Chairman of the China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC), provided the figure during an International Monetary Fund (IMF) conference held in Istanbul, Turkey on Monday. New loans in the first eight months stood at 8.15 trillion yuan, far exceeding the full-year target of five trillion yuan, according to he People's Bank of China, the central bank, this September. The CBRC reiterated in September that domestic lenders should seek to enhance their risk management and stick to regulatory requirements to reduce worries over financial risks caused by rapid credit growth this year. China began to adopt a moderately easy monetary policy in last November in a bid to maintain economic development amid the financial crisis.
PHUKET, Thailand, July 23 (Xinhua) -- China's Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi told reporters Thursday on the sidelines of the ASEAN meeting series that about the Korea Peninsula's nuclear issue, the UN Security Council's resolutions should be implemented and all sides should work hard to avoid escalation of tension. "China's stand is very firm. We are working very hard for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, and we are totally against nuclear proliferation...This issue, the nuclear issue, should be solved by peaceful means through diplomatic negotiation," Yang said. Yang made the remark before he entered the venue for the 16th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), a top security forum in Asia which is held in the Thai southern island of Phuket on Thursday. HAIKOU, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- Rescuers have recovered the bodies of three victims in a boat capsizing incident after tropical storm Parma landed in south China's Hainan Province Monday. Strong winds and waves triggered by Parma caused a fishing boat to capsize and sink off the coast of Wanning City Monday morning, and all nine fishermen aboard the vessel fell into water, a spokesman with the Hainan Provincial Emergency Response Office said. By 5 p.m., one body had been retrieved and five people had been rescued. At about 8 p.m., the bodies of two more victims were found, according to the maritime bureau of Hainan.
