(KGTV) - A Chula Vista high school student was arrested on suspicion of posting a threatening message on social media.Sweetwater Union High School District said they notified police Wednesday that a threat against Olympian High School was posted on social media. A student notified the administrators after school of the social media posting, according to Chula Vista Police.The threat was thought to be credible at the time, police said, and alluded to a student "becoming a school shooter."Chula Vista Police officers identified the poster as a 16-year-old 10th-grade student and took her into custody at her home Wednesday night. (KGTV) — It’s a United States census year and so far, census numbers are not where they should be for San Diego, so Chula Vista leaders held a “week of action” to try to increase numbers.San Diego County has reported a 67.7% response rate compared to 68% in 2010. The goal is to surpass the 2010 numbers and hit 70% this year.Angelica Davis with the City of Chula Vista said they had planned many outreach events to connect with the community, but coronavirus has made that difficult, so they’ve had to find new ways to encourage people to fill out the census in a safe way.The final day of the week, residents could attend a drive-through event where the first 50 cars got whole pizzas and everyone was entered to win prizes and bikes. Anyone who came had access to translators, technology, and people who could answer questions.Davis said these resources are crucial in the Chula Vista community, especially with a push this year for 80% of participants to do the census online.“Not everybody has access to wireless or devices to be able to do it online,” she said.She also said many people in the Chula Vista community are worried about how their information will be used. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Faith leaders and business owners in Chula Vista attended a training Monday night to learn how to plan and prepare for an active shooter threat. Chula Vista police lieutenant, Dan Peak, tells 10News the department received several calls after the Poway Synagogue shooting, asking officers how they could stay safe in the event of an active shooter at their place of worship or business. Chula Vista Police Sergeant, Mike Varga, provided the training for the community. Varga's presentation included a history of active shooters, red flags to look out for, and what to do if you find yourself in an active shooter situation. His advice in that situation is to run, hide or fight. During the presentation, Varga played a 9-minute video detailing exactly what one can do to survive a shooting. Varga also told the audience to listen to their intuition, meaning if someone is displaying red flags, alert the police and let investigators decide whether or not there is a threat. CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- As businesses fight to survive during the most restrictive purple tier, one industry says they feel forgotten.“We don’t seem to be able to move forward,” said Alita Fernandez, marketing director for Play City in Eastlake.Play City is an indoor playground full of inflatable jumpers and bounce houses. It was used to being filled with kids and their families—now, it sits empty.Fernandez said they planned to reopen by January with increased safety and sanitation measures. However, with most of their employees temporarily laid off, the county in the purple tier, and the PPP loans gone, the future does not look good.Indoor playgrounds will not be able to reopen until the least restrictive yellow tier, per state guidelines. At that time, capacity can only be at 50 percent.“I don’t know if Play City will stand, if we will be able to keep our doors open or to open back,” Fernandez said, fighting tears. “We do not know.”She said in the meantime, the bills keep piling up.Fernandez is hopeful a vaccine can help turn things around.
