(AP) — A lawsuit filed by the Satanic Temple alleges an advertising company unfairly refused to display billboards promoting a ritual offered by the group to help people bypass abortion rules in some states. The group, based in Salem, Massachusetts, announced Wednesday that it sued Lamar Advertising in Arkansas state court for alleged religious discrimination. The Louisiana-based company did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The Satanic Temple says Lamar refused to display eight billboards in Arkansas and Indiana promoting what the group calls its “religious abortion ritual.” The Satanic Temple describes the ritual as a “sacramental act that confirms the right of bodily autonomy.”By performing the ritual, the group says, people can claim a religious exemption from mandatory waiting periods, counseling, ultrasounds and other measures that some states require before an abortion can be performed.The group says it submitted five designs to Lamar to be displayed near crisis pregnancy centers. In one of the images, a bowl of cake batter is shown with the text, “not a cake,” next to an image of a sperm and egg with the text “not a baby.” It’s accompanied by text saying, “Our religious abortion ritual averts many state restrictions.”Lamar rejected the billboards and said their content was “misleading and offensive,” according to the suit. (KGTV) -- California State Senator Brian Jones tested positive for coronavirus, he announced on Twitter Wednesday.Jones said he learned of his positive test result after returning to Sacramento for the end of the session.According to Jones’ Twitter, the State Senator plans to take additional tests to rule out a possible false positive.“In the meantime, he’ll be following CDC and CDPH protocols for those receiving a positive test result,” a spokesperson said.The news comes as 228 more people throughout San Diego County tested positive for the virus Wednesday.So far, more than 37,000 people in San Diego County have tested positive for COVID-19. 677

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A judge Monday denied a request by four San Diego County businesses seeking to resume indoor operations following the county's recent slide into the purple tier of the state's coronavirus reopening plan.San Diego Superior Court Judge Kenneth J. Medel heard arguments Friday on the lawsuit, which was filed earlier this month on behalf of Cowboy Star Restaurant and Butcher Shop, Home & Away Encinitas, Fit Athletic Club and Bear Republic, shortly before indoor operations were suspended for nonessential businesses in the county due to rising COVID-19 case numbers.The businesses sought a temporary restraining order halting the prohibition on indoor operations, contending that San Diego County's increased case numbers are not a result of exposures at restaurants, gyms and other types of businesses impacted by the closures.While Medel and the state conceded pandemic restrictions have created negative economic impacts for businesses, both stated the public health concerns outweighed those harms.In his ruling, Medel wrote, "In the court's mind, the impact on public health of dismantling a portion of the state's COVID-19 response designed to reduce community spread outweighs the economic harm to plaintiffs at least pending further examination of these issues in any upcoming hearing on preliminary injunction."A status conference was scheduled for Dec. 2 for discussion regarding a preliminary injunction hearing.Wilson Elser, the law firm representing the businesses, declined comment on the ruling, stating through a spokesperson that it does not comment on active lawsuits.The lawsuit cited figures indicating restaurants/bars, retail businesses, places of worship, schools and gyms make up a small percentage of infections and confirmed community outbreaks.During Friday afternoon's hearing, attorney Bruno Katz, representing the businesses, referenced an adjudication request submitted to the state by San Diego County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten, which sought to have San Diego County remain in the red tier. San Diegans will soon have a new, and much more convenient way, to sell their homes.With a few taps on their computers or phones, they could get an all-cash offer from real-estate tracker Zillow for their property.The program, called Zillow Offers, adds speed, convenience and certainty to a process that often requires patience, home staging, visits from complete strangers, and frustration over transactions falling through."What we're trying to do is help homeowners solve one of the biggest problems they have," said Jeremy Wacksman, President of Zillow. "If you're selling and buying at the same time, trying to get all that done and project managing that even with the help of a great agent is hard."Zillow plans to launch the program in San Diego in early 2020. Homeowners would answer a few questions about their property online, getting an initial offer. If interested, they can arrange for an in-home inspection. A day or two after that, they'll get a formal cash offer they can consider. But that certainty comes at a price. Zillow makes its offer based on a variety of factors, including how long they believe they will have to hold the property and what they can sell it for. The company also deducts the costs of any repairs it deems necessary, with no room for negotiation. Typically, their offer comes with a 7 percent fee, which is 1 to 2 percent more than the average commission.Mark Goldman, a loan officer for C-2 Financial, said Zillow's offer likely comes with a cost.
