SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The owner of Waypoint Public in North Park has found a way to help his business rebound from the Coronavirus Pandemic, while also assisting other businesses to do the same.John Pani invited Dang Brothers Pizza to set up a shop inside his restaurant."I've got a 5,000 square foot restaurant," says Pani. "Doing what we were doing at Waypoint, we could have done that in a 500 square foot restaurant."Pani closed Waypoint in mid-March before County Health Officials imposed a stay at home order. During the closure, he worried about his 130 employees and wanted to find a way to put them back to work.Pani decided to reopen with a limited menu of take-out items that his chefs could prepare.Then in June, he asked a friend who runs Dang Brothers to join him."They're mostly catering and special events. They don't have a brick and mortar shop," Pani says. "I told him, 'Hey man, come set your tent up.' So we craned in a little pizza oven onto our patio and got going."Pani says the response has been fantastic. Now he wants to invite other vendors to set up in his restaurant. He thinks it could create a street-market style environment that will give people a reason to come back to North Park."We have to find a new normal," Pani says. "I don't think we're going to be packing in restaurants any time soon. At least, I personally hope we aren't..."So we have to find a way to hopefully keep businesses alive and still provide the interaction and the hospitality and the food and beverage that people want and need. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The United States Postal Service unveiled its newest forever stamp Wednesday, honoring pioneering astronaut and UC San Diego professor Sally Ride.The ceremony, held at the UCSD campus, featured several of Ride's family and friends, including her life and business parter, Tam O'Shaughnessy, astronaut and Director of the Johnson Space Center Ellen Ochoa, and tennis legend and activist Billie Jean King.RELATED: First American woman in space to be honored with the Sally Ride Forever Stamp"It's amazing the impact and the long-lasting impact that Sally Ride's going to have," King told 10News. "And the stamp, this forever stamp, will be a big help."O'Shaughnessy revealed to 10News that Ride was a stamp collector, herself. "She just kept doing it her whole life, so she would just be so honored with this."Ride was the first American woman in space. Upon leaving NASA, she became a professor. Ride simultaneously founded a business called "Sally Ride Science", which is housed at UCSD. It is dedicated to inspiring young people in STEM.Ride died of pancreatic cancer in 2012 at age 61. 1124

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Tommy Bahama is known for its selection of tropical clothes and button-up shirts, but will soon add exotic drinks and dishes to its list in Mission Valley.The retail chain says it's set to open a Tommy Bahama Marlin Bar at Fashion Valley Mall in Spring 2020. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Thursday, San Diego Sheriff's investigators asked the public for help locating a Fallbrook man who disappeared in 2018.Officials say 50-year-old Arnoldo Loaiza Franco was reported missing on Aug. 10, 2018, by his family in Fallbrook, But the last time Franco had communication with anyone was on Aug. 1. At the time Franco went missing, he was reportedly working somewhere in Escondido or San Marcos at an avocado grove.Franco is described as a Hispanic man, with brown eyes and brown hair, weighing about 140 pounds and about 5-feet 8-inches tall.Anyone with information on Franco's whereabouts is asked to call SDSO's Homicide Unit at 858-285-6286 or the Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 716
