DEER SPRINGS, Calif. (KGTV) — One person died in a fire that destroyed two trailers and a garage in the unincorporated Escondido area on Saturday.The fire was reported just after 2:30 p.m. in the 9800 block of Rocky Ridge Road at Sage Glen Trail in Deer Springs, according to CAL FIRE San Diego.San Diego Sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene to find fire crews actively trying to douse the flames. The 71-year-old homeowner told deputies he just arrived home from fishing before hearing a loud explosion as he was left the garage.The explosion caused a fire that spread throughout the garage and to some adjacent trailers, deputies say. The blaze destroyed two residential trailers and the detached garage.All residents were account for except man, who was later found dead inside one of the trailers, according to the Sheriff's Department. The victim's identity was not immediately released.Sheriff's Bomb and Arson detectives were working to determine the origin and cause of the fire. 998

(KGTV) - A trio of teenage girls is helping the Community Resource Center fill their "Holiday Baskets" this year.The girls, Lucie Babcock, Talia Buzi and Abbie Raysman, donated hundreds of dollars' worth of toys, food and household items to the CRC's yearly campaign."It's just a great feeling to know you're givine and helping people have an amazing holiday season," Lucie says.The three girls held a bake sale earlier this month to raise money. They sold muffins, cookies, brownies, coffee and orange juice in their Carmel Valley neighborhood."It was so much fun," says Abbie. "Lucie's brother was dancing in the middle of the street with a sign, stopping traffic."The bake sale raised around 0, which the girls used on a shopping spree for the donations.The CRC Holiday Baskets program helps 1,600 needy families in the North County. It gives them toys, clothes, food and more for the Christmas season. Organizers say they're impressed with the young girls' desire to give, and that it's small donations like these that help them serve so many people.Lucie started donating to Holiday Baskets when she was 9 years old. Over the years, her bake sale grew to the point where she needed help. Her friends Talia and Abbie were happy to lend a hand."I think it's a really great organization," says Talia of the CRC. "This is a great way to help people who are less fortunate."Lucie says it's all about making sure other kids get the same feeling of joy she does during the holidays."That's what I try to think about, that a kid who's not expecting anything can wake up and have something like this. DELANO, Calif. -- Police in Central California have asked prosecutors to look into filing criminal charges against two Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents involved in a deadly chase, according to the Associated Press.Authorities say Santo Garcia and Marcelina Garcia died in rural Delano in March when their SUV hit a pole and overturned as they ran from ICE agents.Police in Delano determined that ICE agents pulled over the SUV before the crash. Despite more out-of-work Americans amid the pandemic, housing has gotten more expensive during the coronavirus pandemic, especially in rural America.According to findings by Redfin, during the four-week period ending August 2, prices for homes in rural areas jumped 11.3% from 2019 figures. The median house price in urban areas increased by 6.7%. Suburban areas jumped 9.2%.Redfin’s data also indicates more home buyers are looking to move to rural or suburban areas, shying from urban locales. Before the pandemic, 37% of home buyers were searching for homes in urban areas; now it’s 19%. Forty-three percent of home buyers were searching in suburban areas before the pandemic; now, it’s 50%. Nine percent of home buyers were home searching in rural areas before the pandemic; now it’s 19%.During the coronavirus, living close to restaurants, bars, social events and offices is not nearly as much of a priority for many home buyers."We've been speculating about increasing interest in the suburbs and rural areas since the start of the pandemic," said Redfin economist Taylor Marr. "Now we're seeing concrete evidence that rural and suburban neighborhoods are more attractive to homebuyers than the city, partly because working from home means commute times are no longer a major factor for some people. And due to historically low mortgage rates, interest is turning into action. DETROIT - "She was loved," said Jessica Williams-Stough about her 36-year-old daughter, Kelly Stough, who was murdered Friday morning near East McNichols and Brush in Detroit. "She had a lot of people who loved her.
