Based on his conviction this week on three assault charges, comedian and TV star Bill Cosby could be sentenced to 30 years in prison. But legal experts said the 80-year-old certainly will spend less time than that behind bars, and there's a very real possibility that he may not ever be incarcerated. Why? Well, it's mostly to do with his defense team's plan to appeal the guilty verdict -- likely on the grounds that the decision to allow five other accusers to testify in the trial unfairly prejudiced the jury. 519

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Inside Boca Helping Hands, Mel Lazerick mans the pantry desk and hands out apples and bags of produce."I like to do things for other people because I've been fortunate," said Mel, who has devoted most of his life volunteering. At 100-years-old, Mel is the oldest volunteer and donates his time to help feed the hungry three days a week. Executive Director Greg Hazle describes Mel as an inspiration."Just to be active at that age and active helping people is an inspiring way to live," Hazle said.Mel has been handing out groceries at Boca Helping Hands for 20 years with a smile and a sense of humor."I worked it in with my golf and tennis, and I was able to find time," Mel said. "People are very nice to me, and I try to be nice to them."Mel moved from Ohio years ago and settled in South Florida. He recently celebrated his 100th birthday at Helping Hands, and has worked side-by-side with long-time buddy Harold Bader."He's very well-liked. He's very hard-working, even though he's 100," said Bader, who picks Mel up and drives him home. "It made me realize age has nothing to do with your abilities to do things, and he proves that every day.Mel has been volunteering for decades. He joined Big Brothers and Big Sisters more than 70 years ago, and he still keeps in contact with his two younger brothers."One is 65-years-old and one is 92," Mel said. Now, Mel will be honored for his service on October 20, when Boca Helping Hands will celebrate its volunteers. Mel said he has no plans to slow down and hopes to volunteer for another 20 years.  1581

Before your food makes it to your table, or even to the grocery store, it starts here in farms across America. It's planted, grown, and picked by farmworkers."We would typically work from 5 [a.m.] to anywhere like 10, 10:30 at night, Monday through Sunday," said former farm worker Monse Gonzalez.Gonzalez grew up near the farm where she worked in northern Colorado. But, many of her former co-workers are migrant workers from Mexico on H-2A visas for the growing season, usually April through October."I don’t think they really realize how important they are to everybody else," said Gonzalez.Which is why it’s vital they stay healthy.Deb Salazar runs a mobile health unit through Salud Health Systems. Three days a week, the unit travels to different farms in the north Denver area."Without us, a lot of these folks wouldn’t have the opportunities to see anybody who’s medical. And also, because we go to them, they don’t have to miss work," said Salazar. The mobile unit provides a place for the migrant workers to get screened for diabetes, high or low blood pressure, get lab work done, and even see a medical provider for free through a federal grant."If one of their workers gets sick, it’s going to spread super quick, because they work in such close contact. And if they’re out, we’re not going to have any food," said Gonzalez."I don’t think most people realize that agriculture is the backbone of this country," said Salazar. "If we didn’t have a program to take care of the workers, then agriculture would fall, and the country would fall as well."The workers labor from sun up to sundown, making sure our food gets from the ground to the grocery store."I feel like to them, it’s the job that puts food on their family’s table," said Gonzalez. And, the tables of families all across America. 1809
