(KGTV) -- Scientists in La Jolla may be close to curing baldness by finding a way to create new hair cells. Although scientists say the technology is still years away from human trials, 10News is digging into some other things you can do if you’re one of millions of men experiencing hair loss. According to WebMD, about 85 percent of men will have major hair thinning by the time they’re 50. Some men even start to lose hair before they turn 21. There are also some common myths when it comes to hair loss. RELATED: La Jolla lab creating cure for baldnessAccording to WebMD, despite what you may have heard, things like wearing a baseball cap and running your fingers through your hair won’t make you go bald. The site reports that almost all hair loss in men is a genetic trait that comes from your parents. Other causes may include certain medications, too much vitamin A or not enough protein. WebMD says there are some things you can do, but be warned, most “miracle” products don’t work so, when in doubt, talk to your doctor or dermatologist. When it comes to treatment, the site says there are some things you can do. Treatment OptionsMinoxidilAccording to WebMD, nothing can cure male-pattern baldness, but some medications, such as FDA -approved Minoxidil, can slow it down. Hair transplantWebMD reports that transplants work by moving healthy hair from the back and side of your head to the top, but the procedure is costly and you may have to do it several times before it actually works. Of course, there's always the option of embracing your new look and figuring out how to make it work for you. After all, it seems to be working out well for several famous movie stars. A recent study published in the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School also found that baldness can actually help your career, according to the Hair Science Center of Colorado. The university says this is all due to psychology. According to the research, men who have shaved heads were perceived as more "dominant" than men with a full head of hair or thinning hair. UC San Diego researchers and Scripps Research have made several breakthroughs in recent years. Scientists at the Sanford-Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute in La Jolla are also working to discover the first-ever antiviral drugs to treat Ebola. A 28-year-old doctor in Houston has died of COVID-19, according to a GoFundMe set up by her family.According to an update from her father, Dr. Adeline Fagan died on Sept. 19, more than two months after contracting the virus.Fagan, a native of Syracuse, New York, was in the second year of a residency as an OB/GYN at a Houston hospital, according to KTRK-TV in Houston. She typically only worked in the hospital's delivery room, but on July 8, she took a shift in the ER treating COVID-19 patients.Fagan's family says that morning, "feeling well and excited to see patients" as she headed in to see her patients. But later that day, she started to feel "intense, flu-like symptoms."Within a week, Fagan had been diagnosed with COVID-19 and had been hospitalized. Despite several experimental drug treatments, she was placed on a ventilator on Aug. 3.She remained on the ventilator until Saturday evening when a nurse found her unresponsive. She had suffered a massive brain bleed and was later pronounced dead.According to KHOU-TV in Houston, it was Fagan's lifelong dream to be a doctor."She fought for it," Fagan's sister, Natalie, said. "She fought hard. She studied hard. (KGTV) - The San Diego Police Department is launching its "bait bike" program in Point Loma and Ocean Beach after its success in Pacific Beach.The program outfits bikes with GPS devices that notify officers when a bike is being stolen. Officers are able to track the suspect's location in real time before arresting them.San Diego PD has received enough funding for at least 2 bait bikes for Point Loma and Ocean Beach, according to Councilmember Lorie Zapf’s Office.MAP: Track crimes in your neighborhoodFigures from Pacific Beach indicate officers have arrested 128 bike thieves since the program began, with the program having a 100 percent conviction rate.Bait bikes were first rolled out in SDPD in 2014.It’s estimated more than 3,000 bikes are stolen every year across San Diego County.
