September Buys, a teacher in Michigan, says she doesn't really like garage sales, and that should tell you just how far she will go to help her students this year.Buys, an art teacher at Crossroads Middle School in Grand Rapids, said she was feeling helpless about all the uncertainty surrounding the school year-- and decided to channel her frustration into cleaning."I just started cleaning out my closet, because that felt better, just to let some things go," she said. "I made a pile, and then I moved onto the girls’ closet, and then I moved onto the toy room, and just this pile grew and grew and grew.”The idea came to her to hold a garage sale to give away the items. She also reached out to the community on Facebook, asking if others had items they wanted to contribute as well.Instead of selling what's been collected, Buys asked people to donate art supplies or purchase items off the Amazon wishlist she created to help her students.“I think it’s really, really important for people to connect with each other and be kind to each other and if you have something extra, why not share it? Things are things… I think what’s more important for me right now is to make sure that my students are cared for and that they have the things they need to feel like they can express what’s going on, they can kind of get some of that stuff out, and the more materials and stuff I have for my students, the better.”Buys plans to take all the art supplies to create individual 'art kits' for her students."We always need help with purchasing supplies – but this year especially, whether the kids are at home or whether they’re in person, they’re not going to be able to share supplies in the same way. I can’t take one package of pencils and put it in the middle of the table for kids to share anymore. South Africans gathered Saturday to bid farewell to Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, an anti-apartheid icon hailed as a political force and the mother of a nation and a political force.Crowds packed Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg's Soweto township for the funeral following a private service at her home.Mourners followed her coffin in procession into the stadium, where the funeral began with the singing of the national anthem.Her daughter Zenani Mandela-Dlamini was among the speakers at the funeral. Dignitaries included presidents of the Republic of Congo and Namibia, and civil rights leader Jesse Jackson."She made a choice to raise two families, hers and the beloved country," Mandela-Dlamini said. "She cherished freedom as much as she treasured family. She protected both from constant assault from apartheid state."South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver the eulogy.Madikizela-Mandela, the former wife of the late Nelson Mandela, died this month in a Johannesburg hospital after a long illness. ST. LOUIS (AP) — The Cardinals' game Friday against the Chicago Cubs was postponed after another St. Louis player tested positive for COVID-19. In a press release, Major League Baseball said the game was postponed to allow more time for additional testing and to complete the contact tracing process. The Cardinals have been off since last week when two players returned positive coronavirus tests. Eight players in total have tested positive, including star catcher Yadier Molina.ESPN reported the Cardinals already have games to make up due to postponing against the Milwaukee Brewers, who they were scheduled to play last week in a 3-game series. Spotify confirmed to Billboard Thursday that it will no longer promote R. Kelly's music on its editorial and algorithm-based playlists due to sexual misconduct allegations against the singer.In a statement to Billboard, the streaming service said it would no longer actively promote the singer's music under a new "Hateful Conduct" policy."We don’t censor content because of an artist’s or creator’s behavior, but we want our editorial decisions -- what we choose to program -- to reflect our values. When an artist or creator does something that is especially harmful or hateful, it may affect the ways we work with or support that artist or creator," Spotify's policy states.Spotify users can still access Kelly's music by going directly to his page, and users can still add his music to playlists they curate themselves.Kelly has been accused of sexual assault and statutory rape multiple times over the past 20 years. In 2001, a sex tape emerged that prosecutors alleged featured Kelly and an underaged girl. SPRING VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV) -- A driver was arrested Monday morning after hitting several parked vehicles and shearing a fire hydrant in Spring Valley, sending water towards nearby homes and a church.According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at around 5:15 a.m. in the 9100 block of Akard Street.CHP officials said the man struck at least two parked vehicles, hit a fire hydrant and then lost control, causing his truck to flip over.The driver crawled out of his truck and tried to run away, but officers captured him a few blocks away.When the truck slammed into the fire hydrant, it caused a geyser that reached up to 40 feet in the air and flooded nearby homes and the Grace Covenant Church.Most of the water damage affected the WOW Christian Preschool at the church. School director Sally Gutierrez said both of the classrooms sustained heavy water damage, as well as the playground areas."The floor, the carpets, it all got pretty wet," said Gutierrez. "There's even water dripping down the walls from upstairs."Water crews were able to shut off the geyser after about 20 minutes.The preschool reopened in May after closing during the coronavirus pandemic. Only 10 students were enrolled, but they had planned to expand to 30 students in the fall to start the new school year."We don't really know how long we'll be closed now," said Gutierrez. "Everything's on hold. The car that crashed, it affected to many of the neighbors, but it affected us as well, and all of our families."The driver, who was placed under arrest, was taken to the hospital to be evaluated for minor injuries.
