SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Passengers from the Grand Princess cruise ship will be quarantined at MCAS Miramar amid coronavirus fears, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced Sunday.According to the Department, the ship will dock temporarily in a non-passenger port in the San Francisco Bay. Passengers will then be transferred to several federal military facilities throughout the country for medical screening, COVID-19 testing, and a 14-day quarantine. The earliest they could arrive is Tuesday, according to a DoD spokesperson.The nearly 1,000 passengers who are California residents will complete the quarantine at MCAS Miramar and Travis Air Force Base. It's unclear how many of the 1,000 passengers will be housed at Miramar. "MCAS Miramar is preparing to support HHS and their federally mandated quarantine for Grand Princess travelers," a spokesperson for the base said. The ship was previously identified as a breeding ground for several cases on a previous trip. A passenger who is believed to have been infected while on the ship in February was the first coronavirus death in California. "The safety, health and well-being of our guests and crew is always our top priority, and we continue to make every effort to ensure they are safe and comfortable while they remain onboard," Princess Cruises said in a statement.So far, 11 people in the U.S. have died from the virus and at least 400 cases have so far been reported. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police are investigating a shooting in the Chollas Creek area Friday that left a man with multiple gunshot wounds.San Diego Police say a 22-year-old Hispanic male was walking in the 5300 block of Lea St. when he was approached by a Hispanic male suspect sometime before 7 p.m. Friday. A brief conversation began between the two, before the suspect pulled out a handgun and fire four times at the man, police say.The man was hit three times by gunfire. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.The suspect fled the scene in a red sedan, heading eastbound on Lea St. He is described as being 5-foot 8-inches tall with thin build. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- New numbers show San Diego housing costs are taking up more than a third of people’s income. 57 percent of renters spend more than a third on housing and so do 40 percent of homeowners. That's the result of the annual Equinox Project released Thursday by the Center for Sustainable Energy in San Diego.Mikaella Bolling, the project’s manager says it boils down to supply and demand.“A lot of people say well we don't want development in my neighborhood or we don't want infill development in our neighborhood, but this is actually the solution that's going to allow us to have more affordable units,” she said.She points to the need for more partnerships to bridge the gaps and educate the public. “We need to have a better conversation between our residents, between our policymakers, and between our developers,” she said.The cost of a median single-family home in the county jumped 6.5 percent from 2016 to 2017. It’s now upwards of 5,000.“We're seeing that increase every year. Great for homeowners...but not great for buyers,” Bolling added. Krysta Cordill is a certified financial planner with D’Arcy Capital in Carmel Valley.“There's really no magic to it,” she said. “You have to make saving for a home a priority.” Cordill is a past president of the San Diego Financial Planners Association and has seen more clients worry about whether they can afford the high cost of living. “If you have a Roth Ira or traditional IRA, they allow you to take ,000 of that penalty-free for first-time home-buyers," Cordill said. She says people should consider starting in a condo or townhouse. “Just know that that's part of the process of home ownership,” Cordill said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police have released photos of the man accused of badly beating a Pacific Beach bouncer Sunday night. According to police, four men tried to enter through the side door of a restaurant on the 700 block of Grand Avenue around 9:20 p.m. Sunday when a bouncer told the group they had to use the main entrance. As a confrontation escalated, police say one of the men picked up a metal crowd barrier pole, hitting the bouncer in his head. Others in the group then reportedly started fighting with other bouncers at the restaurant before all four men left, according to police. The bouncer who was hit in the head suffered a skull fracture and brain bleed. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Another bouncer suffered a broken nose and two other staff members suffered some bumps and bruises. The man suspected of swinging the pole was described as black, in his 30s, 6 feet tall, and 250 pounds with a muscular build. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - New advertisements against Measure B riled up supporters, who spoke out against the massive development Friday.The commercial states, "Measure B the Newland Sierra project, is a luxury development," something supporters vehemently deny."What I think is disingenuous is making people feel fearful of what can happen in this development," supporter Melinda Vasquez said.Friday, dozens gathered in Kearny Mesa to advocate for Newland Sierra's development project. She is a first generation American (her parents moved from Mexico) and a teacher. She teaches first- and second-graders, and comes home to a 12-month-old."Even though she's a toddler we're going to be expanding soon in the future and we're going to need that space, that affordable space to grow our family," Lopez said she is always budget conscious for her family.The county's existing general plan calls for 99 homes and up to 2,000,000 square feet of commercial property with open space. They said the development will have a spread of apartments for seniors and low low income, affordable town-homes, and individual homes. The highest bracket in the chart showed 1,570 or more.
