SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Customs and Border Protection officials responded Monday to the arrival at San Diego’s U.S.-Mexico border of the first group of migrants from the caravan moving through Mexico. Some 85 people associated with the LGBTQ+ community are near the San Ysidro Port of Entry, according to journalist Jorge Nieto. While the majority of the migrants remain in Central Mexico, the Tijuana group left the others behind because they felt they were being discriminated against, Nieto said.“As the San Ysidro port of entry is at capacity, we anticipate that those individuals will continue to wait in Mexico until CBP is able to take them in to begin processing them, as we already have a number of individuals waiting to be processed,” a CBP spokesperson said Monday.RELATED: Interactive Map: Migrant caravan journeys to U.S.-Mexico border / Timeline: Migrant caravan travels to border / Photos: Migrant caravan makes its way to border“When our ports of entry reach capacity, when their ability to manage all of their missions — counter-narcotics, national security, facilitation of lawful trade — is challenged by the time and the space to process people that are arriving without documents, from time to time we have to manage the queues and address that processing based on that capacity.”CBP officials said the number of inadmissible individuals it can process varies based upon the complexity of the case, available resources, medical needs, translation requirements, holding and detention space, overall port volume, and ongoing enforcement actions.“No one is being denied the opportunity to make a claim of credible fear or seek asylum,” said the CBP.RELATED: First group of migrants arrives in TijuanaOfficials said the agency allows more people into its facilities for processing once space becomes available. Members of the migrant caravan may need to wait in Mexico as officers process others already in their facilities. The LGBTQ+ group took buses to Tijuana and is currently living at an Airbnb in Playas de Tijuana, funded by U.S. lawyers for the group. It is not clear when the group will attempt to seek asylum in the United States. 2169

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — City Council leaders on Tuesday approved the purchase and sale agreement that formalizes the sale of the Mission Valley stadium site to San Diego State University.Following the council's approval of the PSA, a required 30-day waiting period begins. After that, Mayor Kevin Faulconer will sign the agreement to complete the sale and begin the escrow period of the land.Transfer of ownership of the stadium site is expected to take place in early August. Construction on the university's Aztec Stadium is expected to begin shortly after, with the stadium and river park first on SDSU's list for development.RELATED: City Council approves draft of Mission Valley stadium site sale to SDSUFollowing the vote, Faulconer and SDSU President Adela de la Torre issued a joint statement on the agreement:"Today’s final and historic City Council approval of the sale of the Mission Valley stadium site to San Diego State University ushers in a new era for both the City of San Diego and its oldest university. It brings an end to any questions about the future of the stadium site and begins the revitalization of public land to better serve our regional community.SDSU Mission Valley will create an academic and research hub helping generations of San Diegans achieve their personal, educational, and professional goals. It will create thousands of jobs and strengthen our regional economy. It will also support many of the City’s goals by creating more housing, including affordable housing; enhancing mobility options with a new bike and pedestrian paths; increasing transit use; and improving the quality of life for all San Diegans through the creation of a world-class river park.We are grateful for the work that has been done over the past 19 months to get us to this point, and look forward to further strengthening the partnership between the City of San Diego and SDSU as this project becomes a reality."Aztec Stadium is expected to cost about 0 million and will be funded through philanthropic gifts and bonds to be paid back through revenue generated by the facility. The facility's revenue will also support its operating costs. The project is part of San Diego State's "SDSU Mission Valley" campus plan, which includes school facilities; housing for students, the community, and affordable housing; retail; and a community river park. 2367

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Country legend Clint Black is moving beyond Nashville stardom with his first-ever musical, now playing at San Diego’s Old Globe Theater. ‘Looking for Christmas’ is about Staff Sergeant Mike Randolf, who returns from deployment to Afghanistan to be with his family for the holiday."Mike Randolf is making it home just in time for Christmas but he's not really quite home. And through his daughter and her excitement over Christmas, understanding how it works, and then ultimately why it works and why we do it is one of the things that propels Mike forward,” Black told 10News.Clint Black created the idea from his 1995 holiday album and wrote the musical with playwright James Sasser."It was a real odyssey for me to try to find the true meaning of Christmas and it's what we're trying very hard to get across in the play."Randolf struggles to find the joy of the season with the help of his family."For me, the true meaning behind Christmas as I discovered it through writing the album was really the message to look around to others and what they need. It's fun to give people the things they want, but it's important to give people the things they need."‘Looking for Christmas’ runs through Dec. 31 at The Old Globe. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — County public health officials are urging locals who attended indoor services and events at a Kearny Mesa church to quarantine for two weeks after a COVID-19 outbreak linked to the location. The county says anyone who attended Awaken Church at 7620 Balboa Avenue between Nov. 15 and 22 should quarantine for 14 days after their last date of visiting the church and watch for coronavirus symptoms.Officials added that anyone who was at the church within that time frame should get tested for the virus.Generally, the county does not reveal the locations of community outbreaks and has long advocated against the practice. In this instance, public health officials say it's necessary to, "prevent the spread and occurrence of additional cases," and that, "in this case, public health has been unable to identify and notify all of those exposed."In a letter to the church, the county said while the community outbreak linked to the church doesn't mean that anyone contracted COVID-19 at the location, everyone who has attended events at the location should quarantine for 14 days.A community outbreak is three or more COVID-19 cases from different households within two weeks at one location."You should review your current plans to prevent COVID-19 at your location and determine if there are actions that you can take to reduce the likelihood that your staff, customers, or visitors could contract this infection," the letter said. The county added that anyone who has attended the church, as well as the public in general, should continue to wear face coverings, practice social distancing, and avoid large gatherings. With the exception of two days, San Diego County has seen new COVID-19 cases spike to more than 1,000 cases a day over the last week. Saturday's update set another daily record with 1,859 new COVID-19 cases reported — a 14% positivity rate out of 12,932 tests.According to the county's data on Saturday, there were 86 active community outbreaks. 1988
