SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Palomar College officials say almost all of its classes will be held remotely this fall and new online programs will be offered. The college said all fall classes will be held online except for Emergency Medical Education (EME) and Fire and Police Academies, which resumed in-person courses in May, and the Nursing program, which will start in-person classes in the fall. Some Microbiology labs will also meet in person.RELATED: University of San Diego sidelines plans for fall in-person coursesPalomar cited an uptick in coronavirus cases in San Diego County as the reason they've chosen to continue virtual learning."Protecting our students, faculty and staff is our top priority as we navigate the dynamic conditions of this health crisis," said Interim Superintendent/President Dr. Jack Kahn. "Palomar will continue to deliver stellar instruction in a remote learning format as we support students in pursuing their goals."RELATED: San Diego Unified School District announces detailed online learning planThe school will launch new online programs in the fall, including: cybersecurity, data analytics, public relations, alcohol and other drug studies, social work and human services, child development—child and family services, child development—school age assistant, child development—associate teacher, and medical professions preparation (non-credit).Those who do return to campus in the fall will be screened for body temperature and COVID-19 symptoms, the college says. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Postal workers across San Diego will have an extra pickup this Saturday - they're working to end hunger in San Diego. The San Diego Food Bank and the National Association of Letter Carriers are asking San Diegans to participate in the annual Stamp Out Hunger event by setting out bags of nonperishable food items next to their mailboxes. The letter carriers will pick up the donations on their route and deliver them to the Food Bank's warehouse. “After the holiday season, food donations drop dramatically, and this one-day food drive helps us restock our shelves ahead of the summer months when we see increased in demand from children on summer vacation who stop receiving free school meals and face hunger at home,” said San Diego Food Bank President & CEO, Jim Floros.Last year, 244,489 pounds of food was collected from homes in San Diego County alone for the San Diego Food Bank and our North County Food Bank chapter. The food was distributed through the Food Bank’s network of 400 nonprofit partner agenciesMost needed items:  1096

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Newly-elected San Diego District 4 councilwoman Monica Montgomery is vowing to improve the relationship between her community and the police department. On Monday, she was unanimously appointed to the Public Safety and Livable Neighborhoods Committee. More than a dozen community members spoke during a special meeting on Monday, backing Montgomery. The overwhelming support for her appointment quickly turned to frustration and anger towards the rest of the council and the police department about Aleah Jenkins, who died in SDPD custody early this month. Montgomery says she hears the community's frustration and is ready to get to work. "A lot of this stems just not from the support of me, but the desire to have real action in our community when it comes to our police and community relations," said Montgomery. She plans on taking a closer look at an SDSU racial profiling study within the department and look into possibly giving the Community Review Board subpoena powers to allow them to perform independent investigations and obtain sworn testimony during alleged police misconduct. "I'm confident we'll do the right thing. Everyone will need to do the right thing; we're at a crossroads and we need to do the right thing by our people and by our officers," added Montgomery. The police department insists there is no evidence of force used during Jenkins' arrest and is referring all questions to the district attorney. Police Chief David Nisleit was at Monday's city council meeting but declined to comment. 1546

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Planned Parenthood officials say a recent act of vandalism at their Pacific Beach location will not "stop us from serving our patients."Red paint appeared to be thrown across the location's sign and windows on Mission Bay Drive sometime between late Sunday afternoon and Monday. A photo of crews cleaning the site was captured by a Reddit user and posted online here.In a statement to 10News, Planned Parenthood said the vandalism would not affect operations:"While we are disappointed by the recent vandalism to our health center, no attempt at intimidation will stop us from serving our patients. We've been a part of the fabric of this community for 55 years, and we'll be here for many more to come. Our patients can count on our doors to stay open, no matter what." 812
