We're getting carried away here! he exclaimed. But carried away is Kasich's middle name.He has nine months left in his term as Ohio governor, and this is his third trip to the Granite State since coming in second here in the 2016 GOP primary. The reason for the questions about Kasich running as an independent are twofold: (1.) He sounds like an independent in today's polarized environment and (2.) Challenging an incumbent President in a Republican primary is not easy, especially one who still has support from 86% of Republicans nationwide, according to CNN's latest poll.Kasich insisted that he's not surprised by the fact that Trump, who beat him in New Hampshire by 20 percentage points, is still popular among Republicans. He chalks that up to tribal politics, saying parties have become like sports -- you root for your team no matter what. So, what makes this Republican think he has a shot at toppling a GOP president in this environment?"When I came to New Hampshire I had less than 2% name ID. Now, unwittingly or whatever, I'm now more widely known," he said, underscoring his understanding of the volatile political climate. "Secondly, I can't tell you what's going to happen in the next five minutes."Is coming to New Hampshire and staying in touch with supporters, friends and donors an insurance policy in case he does decide to run?"Well, no, it's an options policy that I don't know what I'm going to do and in politics I'm still a young person, a young man and I don't know," the 65-year-old told CNN. "I know it's so hard for people to believe that, that I'm not plotting and scheming."In the meantime, he says he is going to keep using his "voice" to call out the President and other Washington politicians."I fear that we could be entering a post-truth era," he said."That means we can't even agree on anything, so, how do you have a dialogue? How do you bring people together when we can't agree on what's real and what's not?"He continued, "I want to do some things that keep my options open but where it's going to lead, i just don't know but I don't want my voice to be quieted, but you know what? The Lord may tell me, 'Hey John, shut up for a while.'" 2179

We closed and locked the door and we pushed the cabinet up against the door, she said. Not long after she heard the shooter attempt to enter the office and then fire four shots."I looked out and two of the shots had almost come through the cabinet, the back of the cabinet."Cox never returned. He was one of 12 people killed in the shooting.Cox, an account clerk, had worked in the public utilities department for 12? years."He was a hero," Dewar said. "A guardian angel that walked this earth that didn't deserve to leave us so soon."Cox's brother posted photos of him on Facebook Saturday and shared a note."My heart is hurting because my baby brother was murdered today by the shooter in Virginia Beach mass shooting," he wrote."I won't (hear) his beautiful singing voice at church or home anymore. I loved my brother and will truly miss his caring soul. Until we meet again in heaven." 888

Two elementary schools in Herriman, Utah — Butterfield Canyon and Bastian — have decided to get rid of homework this school year. The principal of Butterfield Canyon Elementary School principal said it wasn't a quick decision. A few years back, a previous school superintendent shared some research from John Hattie, who argues that homework for elementary school students is not effective.“When there is research to show that homework is not effective, it’s a practice that we need to leave behind," principal Amanda Bollinger said. She first started talking to her teachers about the idea last school year, but finally decided to fully implement the no-homework policy for the 2019-2020 school year.In terms of academics, they haven't seen any sort of negative impacts to students' performance, Bollinger said. In fact, third-grade teacher Janet Hall said she has seen her students work harder and smarter."I am seeing them more focused on what they are doing at school. They know the importance of staying on task and learning here," she said. It's been an adjustment, Hall admits — although she was never one to hand out loads of homework.“I always said anything that the kids don’t finish in class would be sent home as homework, and now I don’t get to do that," she said.Where the no-homework policy has been most beneficial is with students' mental health, Bollinger said.“We’ve actually had a reduction by about 50 percent in anxiety referrals to our school physiologist," she said. Not everyone has been on board, Bolinger said, but most are in support. The hope is that students will use this time to play outside, read more, eat dinner with their family and get to bed early."Hopefully parents are taking advantage of the time to teach their kids life skills and things that will really benefit them, more than writing their spelling words five times," Hall said.Students are still asked to read 20 minutes every night. This story was originally published by Sydney Glenn at KSTU. 1985
