MINSK, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- China and Belarus have a bright prospect for cooperation as the two countries share highly economic complementarity, says the Chinese ambassador to Belarus.Ambassador Lu Guicheng said that in recent years, China-Belarus ties have expanded rapidly and have been promoted by the leaders of both countries.The ambassador also said in the interview with Xinhua that the two countries are mutually supportive of each other on global affairs and frequent interactions between senior officials of the two countries have injected strong momentum into the development of bilateral ties.Lu also stressed that China-Belarus reciprocal economic cooperation is flourishing, with the smooth development of some major cooperative projects on infrastructure construction."China and Belarus are economically complementary on resource, market, fund and equipment, and thus share a broad prospect for cooperation," Lu told Xinhua.Meanwhile, the diplomat mentioned the profound friendship between the Chinese and Belarusian peoples.After a deadly earthquake struck China's northwestern region of Yushu in April, Belarus was among the first to extend condolences and provided aid to the people affected, Lu said.

BEIJING, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang has said finance should play a vital role in the country's macro control policies, while ensuring and improving people's livelihoods should be the priority of public finance.Li, speaking Monday at a national finance work conference, said China would stick to its proactive fiscal policy in 2011 and better handle relations between maintaining steady and relatively fast economic development, restructuring the economy and managing inflation expectations, according to a statement released on Tuesday.The country will also put more focus on stabilizing overall commodity prices and promoting a balance between supply and demand to ensure basic livelihoods for residents, Li said.Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang (C) speaks at a national finance work conference in Beijing, capital of China, Dec. 27, 2010. WASHINGTON, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- China's rapid economic growth is good for the U.S. workers, and the U.S. government is committed to improving bilateral economic relations with China, said U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke on Thursday."China has lifted almost 200 million people out of poverty (in the past two decades). And in the years ahead, hundreds of millions more Chinese will ascend into the middle class," Locke said at a U.S.-China commercial relations forum, which was held in Washington ahead of the U.S.-China Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade (JCCT) session scheduled for Dec. 14-15."The United States welcomes this growth because this is good for the people of China ... it's good for the global economy, and good for U.S. business and ultimately, U.S. workers," said Locke.He noted that as recently as 40 years ago, the commercial relationship between the United States and China barely existed. But in the recent decades, "we have seen our countries grow progressively closer."In 2009, the bilateral trade volume reached some 365 billion dollars. China was the largest supplier of U.S. goods imports in 2009 and was the third-largest market for U.S. exports, only after Canada and Mexico.Locke mentioned that as U.S. Commerce Secretary, he has visited China for four times."Each time I visit China, I'm absolutely amazed by the transformation and the progress within China," he said.Locke noted that although there are disagreements between the two sides, there are more opportunities for cooperation."In many areas, especially in emerging industries, like clean energy and biotechnology, the interests of China and the United States are tied together. And the reform as good for the U.S. will be good for China as well," he added.Locke also revealed that during the upcoming 21st session of the JCCT in Washington D.C., the two countries will seek to further "nurture and improve the most highly-scrutinized bilateral economic relationship on Earth.""This is our most important bilateral dialogue or mechanism for resolving trade and investment issues between our two countries," he stressed.The session will be co-chaired by Locke and U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk with Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan. BEIJING, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- China should steadily promote the internationalization of its currency, the yuan, the head of China's social security fund said Saturday.The internationalization of the yuan is a significant step for advancing the reform of the international monetary system, Dai Xianglong, chairman of China's National Council for Social Security Funds, said when speaking at annual economic forum in Beijing.The current international monetary system has not adapted to the new patterns of global economic development, he said, adding that currency diversification is a realistic solution.Currency diversification means continuing the role of dollar, increasing the role of the euro and internationalizing other currencies, he said.The U.S. dollar, serving as both the U.S. currency and the most important international currency, will be used for U.S. policy goals when the two roles contradict each other, spurring fluctuations in global financial markets, he said, adding that the dollar has a tendency to depreciate.He said the Chinese yuan is a stable currency, and so ensures the safety of other countries' assets.The Chinese currency also enhances world trade, protecting the interests of China's foreign trade and investment, he added.The internationalization of the yuan will take 15 to 20 years, he said, suggesting an expansion of the overseas circulation of the yuan and an acceleration in the opening-up of China's large commercial banks to speed up the process.He urged Chinese banks in foreign countries to offer funding in yuan.He also called for more efforts to reform the interest rate mechanism, to ease the process of the internationalization of the yuan.
