SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man who pleaded guilty to selling counterfeit oxycodone pills that led to the overdose death of La Jolla resident was sentenced in court Wednesday. According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Trevon Antone Lucas was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the death of the La Jolla resident in 2018. According to court documents, Lucas pleaded guilty in June to distribution of fentanyl resulting in death. In his plea, Lucas admitted that he posted online ads for the illegal sale of prescription pills investigators say were laced with fentanyl. An investigation found that Lucas was twice warned about the danger of the pills he was selling. “Trevon Lucas knew the pills he was selling were deadly, but he sold them anyway, showing a remarkable disregard for the safety and well-being of his fellow human beings,” said U.S. Attorney Robert Brewer. “His greed transcended his humanity, and for that he will serve a very long sentence.” In his plea agreement, Lucas said he met with the victim in June of 2019, selling him nine “blues,” a slang term for prescription oxycodone pills. The pills were counterfeit and laced with fentanyl, according to documents. The documents go on the say Lucas had previously been warned about the sale of the pills. The victim reportedly died after consuming the pills. Three other people, Cenclair Marie Fields, Kevin Vandale Chandler and Donovan Adontas Carter also pleaded guilty in the case. 1454

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A major crash on state Route 94 in San Diego’s Webster area sent several people to the hospital and caused traffic backups early Monday morning.According to California Highway Patrol, at around 12: 10 a.m., a black sedan traveling on southbound Euclid Avenue somehow veered off the roadway, went down an embankment and onto westbound SR-94.The crash caused a chain reaction of vehicles slamming into the back of the black sedan while the driver was trapped inside.To prevent the pile-up from getting worse, witnesses sprang into action using a light to wave down the traffic.When fire crews arrived, they had to use the jaws of life to remove the driver from her car. She was taken to a hospital with major injuries.Several other drivers were also transported to a hospital with minor injuries.CHP is investigating what caused the black car to lose control and crash. 895

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A Hillcrest man is still recovering in the hospital after he says he was attacked, leaving him with a head injury and partial paralysis.Ricky Jackle says he was walking with a friend on Robinson Avenue in Hillcrest October 14.“I was out with a friend of mine. Had a few drinks at The Rail.” According to Jackle, that’s when the assault took place.“Last thing I remember, there was a confrontation between the person I was with and somebody else. I tried to get in the middle of it to stop in. I was pushed on my chest, went backwards and hit my head on the curb. Apparently that’s when I bled out. I heard voices, by friend’s voice behind me,” said Jackle.Jackle says after the incident, his friend fled the scene.In tears, Jackle describes how the assault has changed his life. “I can’t work, I can’t do the things I used to do. I’m scared.”“I don’t think anyone should be attacked or a victim like I was, I don’t think it’s right.”While under observation at the hospital, Jackle began to feel numbness in his hands and arms which resulted in loss of movement in his hands, arms and legs, according to a GoFundMe post.“The injury caused swelling which compressed his spinal cord resulting in loss of movment [sic] and some paralysis,” according to the post.Jackle’s cousin, Derrick Roach spoke about the friend who left Jackle following the attack. “He said the reason I left Ricky is with all the blood I thought he was dead. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A mom shopping with her one-year-son leapt into action when she found a car burglar inside her SUV in University City.On Wednesday morning at the Vons on Governor Drive, Gloria spent about 15 minutes shopping inside. Her son was sitting in the cart. As soon as she pushed the loaded cart out of the store, her eyes zeroed in on her SUV, parked close to the store."I was kind of in disbelief. Someone was in the car and the passenger door was wide open," said Gloria.Gloria saw a man rummaging through her center console and started screaming. She pushed every button on her key fob."The panic alarm actually went off. Scared the living daylights out of him, and he took off running," said Gloria. Moments after, she found her phone in her purse and starting recording. Surveillance video shows her take off in his direction. Holding tightly to her son, she continued to scream. Still pushing the cart, she followed him. "Definitely adrenaline and pure anger," said Gloria.Gloria has been a victim of three car burglaries in the past five years."I'm going to get you this time. You're not going to do this to anybody else," Gloria kept thinking. Less than a minute later, she followed him across the parking lot to a U-Haul truck before he drove off. She got a photo of him and the license plate. Possibly realizing Gloria got video, the guy ditched the truck, which was recovered hours later. She says police told her it was loaded with stuff: some of her belongings and other items, likely stolen. Police say the license plate led them to a local address, but the man wasn't there. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Mission Hills business complex plagued by homeless loiterers for weeks posted videos on Ring Neighbors Sunday, receiving sympathy and frustration from the community.The latest video, taken Saturday night at 10:20 p.m. shows a man walking away from a business's door. The caption said the man was trying the door handle.The first of six videos is dated June 26th. Just before 1 a.m. it shows what looks like a man walking a bike into an alcove where the mailboxes hang on the wall, and setting up a walker.Then, July first just before 2 a.m. a different man walks a bicycle in, surveys the mailboxes with a flashlight, talking with a friend who walks in behind him carrying two bags. The second man said he stays there a lot.July 16th, around 3 a.m. a man looks like he's arranging an area to sleep. July 24th, at 11:44 p.m. a woman comes in sits down and charges her phone. The caption on the video says the landlord removed the electrical outlet after the video was recorded.July 31st around 10:15 p.m. the owner spoke through the Ring doorbell, asking if she could help the homeless man who was sleeping in front of her business. He replied, "No you can't help me with anything, thank you though, I'm just sitting here for a minute, thank you for interrupting my peace and quiet, thank you. I hate humanity, I hate people." She responded, "Well you're actually on private property right now," he fired back, "I'm on private property everywhere I go, I don't care." He then told her to burn in hell, packed up and left."It's infectious for every neighborhood," neighbor Jeff Olson said. He moved into the neighborhood in April and says he doesn't see as many homeless people in Mission Hills compared to El Cajon."It's a shame. What do you do? They have nowhere to go, you can't arrest them, that would tax another system, you know?" Olson wishes there was a solution for them. 1907
