The simple design was meant to have broad appeal.“It was just one of those things that they ... (wanted to) make sure that it's very simple and gender neutral and a stripe was the easiest, most simple way to do that,” explains Teri Burke, director of patient apparel at Northfield, Illinois-based Medline Industries. They first introduced the blankets in the late 1960s as hospital births were on the rise. Since then, little has changed. Not even the color scheme. “They have not. Same old, same colors, the same spacing between the stripes. We have specs that outline that exact design," Burke says. "So, they fundamentally have not changed."Medline Industries sells nearly 2 million Kuddle-Up blankets a year and estimates that one in four babies is swaddled in it. “We have several infant blankets, but this is by far the most popular and the most iconic,” Burke says. For the Berrys, the iconic blanket is a familiar reminder that they’ve been through this before."There absolutely has to be some psychological type of comfort when you see the children wrapped in that same blanket," Scott Berry says. And while the 30-by-40-inch blanket is perfect for swaddling newborns, Medline says it isn’t available for big babies just yet. 1232

The Titanic would sink in the North Atlantic Ocean five days after Buss wrote her letter and just four days into the maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City.Buss was saved on lifeboat nine when the vessel, Carpathia, rescued survivors following the Titanic's sinking. The couple had only one child, a daughter named Sybil, while in San Diego. By the time of the 1930 census, the couple had moved to Santa Monica, Calif., and eventually Pasadena, Calif.Buss died at the age of 96 on July 12, 1972, at a nursing home in Polk, Oreg., according to the encyclopedia. She had followed her daughter to Oregon to be closer together. The auction house estimates Buss's letter to be worth between £20000 to £25000, or about ,410 to ,512 in the current market. 1042

The UAW announced a national strike would begin at 11:59 p.m. during a Sunday morning news conference.Approximately 48,000 UAW-GM workers at 31 GM factories and 21 other facilities, spread across nine states, will be a part of the strike. The union and GM have been negotiating a new contract for months, and on Sept. 3, the UAW selected GM as the strike target, meaning they would be the first of the "Big Three" to begin negotiating. The other two automakers that make up the Big Three are Ford Motor Company and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. The trio is often referred to as the "Big Three" because they are the three largest automakers in the U.S.“We stood up for General Motors when they needed us most. Now we are standing together in unity and solidarity for our members, their families and the communities where we work and live,” said UAW Vice President Terry Dittes. Also, on Sept. 3, UAW members voted to authorize a strike amid the negotiations, with more than 96 percent of GM UAW workers approving a strike. It was also 96 percent for Fiat Chrysler and nearly 96 percent for Ford.Workers say the strike is to secure "fair wages, affordable health care, share profits, job security and a defined path to permanent seniority for temps."“We told UAW GM members that we would stand up for them and their future,” said Gary Jones, president of the UAW. 1358
